Over 11 MAS*H seasons, Loretta Swit turned Major Houlihan from a one-note movie character to one that was powerful and three-dimensional; watching her taught me a lot about writing. I got to tell her so a few years ago; she couldn't have been more charming. A terrible loss, but a tremendous life.
