$41.2 BILLION in contract amendments in 7 just months 🤯 Govt contracts should serve the public, not private companies. The "land & expand" tactic - low bids followed by endless amendments - undermines integrity. We need proper competition to deliver value. www.canberratimes.com.au/story/887629...

Cold comfort. My @smh @theage cartoon.

It's official: The lunatics are now running the asylum.

A reminder for these times.

"Australians no longer trust career politicians - we are tired of spin & broken promises. We are frustrated with govts who won't take rational action, and instead play political games. We need honesty, integrity & leadership that puts the community first. This independence starts with your vote".

“Clearly truth has been the first casualty of recent politics, both internationally and domestically. The issue that has been most distorted has been immigration.” “There is widespread community support for truth in political advertising – The Australia Institute found 87% were in favour.”

I fully support the calls for tougher hate speech laws but draw the line at rushing through extreme measures like mandatory sentencing as it sets a dangerous precedent.

Here are some nice mushrooms

I'm scared. I'm anxious. I'm also very active. There's nothing we can do about the US but there's a lot we can do here to make sure it doesn't happen to us - especially in this election year #auspol See some links here > linktr.ee/deniseshrivell

It’s … odd … to see multimillionaire Dutton campaigning to win votes from small business with tax breaks for non-business activities. Is he losing small biz votes? Is he grasping & out of touch? Or does he believe employees looking for lunches from bosses will too? www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01...

Given our Australian Federal MPs are (mostly) older, white men, I wonder how many are even aware of the Australian Wars (aka the Frontier Wars) between Indigenous Australians and the white colonists. Rachel Perkins' 3-part series is excellent viewing (available on SBS On Demand). #auspol #AusHistory

Playing cute games with the definition of a "new coal mine" on the day you approve three major coal expansions will definitely fix the climate.

I will never not think of this comic

Nuclear power plants use a large amount of water for cooling and to drive turbines, typically between 13–24 billion liters per year: Amount of water used: A 1600 MW nuclear plant uses around 2,000 liters of water per second or 173 million liters per day SHOW ME THE WATER, Mr Littleproud. #auspol

There is only a 'debate' because the media keeps fuelling and prolonging a 'debate'. Meanwhile the bipartisan protection racket for fossil fuels goes largely ignored. #auspol #climate

This is grift on grift. It is paid content masquerading as journalism for a pollutant dressed up as a solution. Gas is the most expensive form of electricity. Great editorial @satpaper.bsky.social www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/2024/12/07/c...

THREAD: NACC Governance - Do as I say, not as I do Let's cut to the chase, the NACC Commissioner approved the conflict of interest (COI) guidelines and the requisite COI Form and then ignored the very process he had approved and did not lodge a formal COI Form. #Leadership

Bluesky promises more verification and an ‘aggressive’ approach to impersonation

Finnish textile artist Raija Jokinen, Internal Garden, 2014

British sculptor Barbara Hepworth, 'Tides I' 1946

Artist Lita Albuquerque's work questions our place in the enormity of space and time. 'Stellar Axis: Antarctica' sees the placement of blue spheres corresponding to the location of 99 stars in the Antarctic sky

Welcome to WA on Bluesky as requested by you xx 'Breathing Space' by Janis Goodman

There's no excuse for forgetting to use alt text on Bluesky because the app can ensure that you don't. It's a really good habit to get into to keep things accessible. An added bonus is that adding alt text makes any image that you post searchable based on what you plug in.

Because the below skeet went viral here, and people are arguing over it, I'm going to share some more info about it from a thread I did at the other place. I really need to just do an article about it but haven't done that yet. Until then, I hope readers find this thread useful. 🧵

Comment under SMH/Age article... "There are really no good reasons left to vote for either of the major parties any more: Both of them beholden to narrow business interests and not working in the best interest of the Australian population overall" #auspol

The proposal to reduce the tax concessions on earnings in superannuation balances *above* $3m is a good policy that restores a small measure of fairness to the system. It would affect around 80,000 people - or the top 0.5%. The govt should proceed with the changes & push for a fairer tax system.

Day 14 of posting cool mushrooms every day: I know Halloween is over but I can't resist... Devil's Fingers, also known as the Octopus Stinkhorn (Clathrus archeri), stinks of rotting flesh and attracts insects. It's native to Australia and NZ, however it is now found in the south of England too.

Day 21 of posting cool mushrooms every day: The Bleeding Tooth fungus (Hydnellum peckii) has both teeth on its underside and "blood" on its top! The "blood" is extracellular fluid, which is squeezed out when the fungus absorbs water, increasing pressure until the red fluid is squeezed out!

Cuts to NDIS too quick. It's ok to question programs but the federal government has to give the stakeholders time to respond & adjust. Aus Music Therapy Assoc had no warning. Also, system doesn't allow participants to adjust plans that quick. #auspol www.disabilitysupportguide.com.au/talking-disa...

NDIS funding is important and art therapies are globally recognised as beneficial to the treatment and recovery of both mental and physical disorders. Please sign. www.change.org/p/creative-a...
