the real problem is the conflation of "high IQ" with "high agency" all manner of divergent and contradictory things can lead to "historical" influence, lots of which is indeed unfortunate. so what? the cognitive aptitude in question just does not matter much either way in any general sense.

the only silver lining, but it is shiny

no doubt, tho race is messy, as seen in non-white male youth swings.

there is a natural tension btwn public posture and hidden strategy. quite simply we need resistors on both ends of this tension.

New study out in @sfjournal.bsky.social. We find Christian nationalism is among the leading predictors of multiple measures of racial solidarity, but ONLY FOR WHITES. For Blacks, CN actually seems to make them LESS inclined to advocate for themselves in politics. 1/3 academic.oup.com/sf/advance-a...

The lawsuits that come out of this clusterfuck if they do start terminating civil servants for their responses or nonresponses are going to consume DOJ’s personnel for the rest of time

Here's a weird thing: AI-generated articles are now quoting me for things I haven't said. For example, this piece provides quotes that I allegedly gave to Reuters. I haven't talked to Reuters about this. The quotes are *close* to what I might say, but not correct. opentools.ai/news/elon-mu...

C'mon. The president is busy doing his job - making sure he has the spiffiest airplane, devising cool new names for geographical features, and doing the programming for the Kennedy Center. He has people for that other stuff, and they've told him that everything is going great.

I celebrate the 80% of Germans who did not vote for the far right. Do not make 19.6% of German voters into "the" German people (again). "The" German people don't exist! The German population is diverse and divided, but voted overwhelmingly for liberal democratic parties. #BTW25 #GermanElection

Good that the Times is tracking his deeds and words like this. www.nytimes.com/interactive/... Next level would be to organize all the known steps in democracy's replacement by authoritarian governance, and report it as news when he reaches them, so that we know where we are— and what remains.

I see a lot of desperation about German election. #BTW25 Let me provide a perspective from Trumpland: AfD will win at most 25%, which means that 75% do NOT vote for far right! That is still a strong democratic mandate. Use it to strengthen democracy! Don't empower the far right unnecessarily!

ahh the mysteries of "representation"

Note, it's true that Vought has gotten the trauma he wants. But bureaucrats are NOT being perceived as the villain here.

Did someone replace the headline writer at @nytimes.com with a person who understands current events?

An above-the-fold use of the word “lying” in the print version of the Sunday NYT.

yeah man that’s the problem

happy bday Du Bois!

CNN plays a clip of Russian state TV praising Trump for being "in total alignment" with Putin

very effective slogan and also a reminder to the forces arrayed against Trump that they have the whole American civic tradition at their disposal since Trumpism, especially with Elon and in the second incarnation has genuinely abandoned all of it.

Brilliant but devastating editorial in the Financial Times. “In the past 10 days, he [Trump] has all but incinerated 80 years of postwar American leadership. If you are not at the table, you are on the menu. America has turned.”

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

I want to address a related point to the one I raised in this thread. A couple years ago the Times did a really strong package about the power of SpaceX. Not only is SpaceX. Not only is it now one if not the preemptive orbital delivery company in the world it also has a fleet of ...

I've written a free and accessible guide to Cephalopod Sentience with Alex Schnell, Piero Amodio and Peter Morse, stunningly illustrated by Roksolana Tkach. Please download and share! It's worth it for the illustrations alone! 🐙 thebrooksinstitute.org/sites/defaul...
