Why is it we can only find space for eight trees in the new George Strreet design…. …. having lived with it as a 192-space Georgian Car Park for decades? Street trees create and make welcoming public places. We need more from this design.

We’re blessed with some great green spaces in SW Edinburgh. Great to see that some of the grass is left to grow longer and provide biodiversity benefits (as well as reducing mowing costs and emissions). Are there other parks where more of this could be done, while retaining access to pitches etc?

20 minute neighbourhoods need somewhere nice to sit.

Almost 70% of the public space around the location of this bakery is given over to carriageway. That's the problem, not people queuing for cakes.

20 minute neighbourhoods need good bike lanes.

The kind of public realm enhancement that should be standard in SW #Edinburgh. We can but dream.

20 minute neighbourhoods need more focus on direct routes for walk, cycling and public transport.

This weekend will be the 200th Oriam Parkrun - to celebrate this, I have formally submitted an Early Day Motion to the UK House of Commons. If you are free, come along and run, walk, jog around the course - you will love it. You have to register, but it is 100% free: www.parkrun.org.uk/oriam/

#Mobesity, #CarBloat and #CarSpreading not only have an impact on our scarce public space in cities, but actually impact people’s lives - often the most vulnerable 👇 Simply accepting this is #Motornormativity - it’s a public health crisis that would not be allowed for anything else.

Gorgie, Stockbridge, Colinton Village, Portobello, Easter Road & Bruntsfield could all be like this.

Thank god: more housing for students! Why would the city want just, you know, dense housing?

Today, the Government launches plans to fast-track driverless vehicle trials in the UK. One of the companies involved says London presents a big challenge: “It has seven times more jaywalkers than San Francisco.” Except… it doesn't. 🧵

The video below demonstrates the fantastic tool that @harryjwilliams.bsky.social has developed to show #Edinburgh planning applications. 👏 What a great product. www.city-scope.co.uk/planning-upd... Spotted in @edi.bike’s weekly digest - also worth a follow.

#Edinburgh should too.

We can just keep loosening our civic belts to tackle #Mobesity or use parking and other charges to nudge the necessary diet to tackle car-bloat.

Fascinating - Timpsons is still there, but it shows how much Earl Grey Street could do with a road diet!

New research provides conclusive proof that 20mph in London is saving lives. 14 yrs of analysis at 150+ sites - reviewed by experts - shows: ❤️40% fewer deaths (vs 7% drop on roads where no changes were made) ❤️75% fewer children killed & 50% fewer kids hurt And slower speeds deliver so much more:
