Starmer wants to “amend” Article 8 of the European Convention of Human Rights to have more deportations. What he doesn’t say is that Art 8 has only been used to stop deportations 13 times since the 1980s. Yet he suddenly wants to “amend” it after trans people demand the human rights Art 8 confers.

Two points about that leaked Labour NEC guidance. Neither, I am afraid, good. First, the author uses the (rare, outside transphobic discourse) words "transwoman" and "transman" which delegitimise as women and men people who are trans. Hard to believe this is by accident.
