I’m having so much fun reading the applications so far, and can’t wait to meet this group in the fall! @dearclarissa.bsky.social

Recipes can archive part of a disappearing or rapidly changing culture, tell a story about a person or place, allow people to connect with a broader world, or help them get food on the table with available resources. Come explore all these functions with me and @dearclarissa.bsky.social!

Are you interested in the ethics and craft food writing? life in rural Japan? spending time surrounded by nature in the open-air kitchen of a 100-year old farmhouse? This retreat might be for you! www.mokkei-yamanaka.com/workshops/wh...

Why include a novelist in a recipe-writing workshop? Not only does Bryan Washington also write recipes, his fiction shows us how a recipe can help define a character or relationship, set a scene, or indicate membership in a community. Recipes are not only for teaching people how to cook.

This retreat is in September, but applications are due April 15! We have just 8 spots.

"The Osaka High Court on Tuesday ruled that law provisions that do not allow same-sex marriage are unconstitutional, overturning a lower court judgment. (...) It follows similar judgments made by the Sapporo, Tokyo, Fukuoka and Nagoya high courts."

As an Asian recipe developer for whom sesame oil is a cherished pantry staple, I feel attacked by the anti-seed oil rhetoric. 😵‍💫

Applications are due April 15 (and the application process should be quick and easy) so if you want to come, apply now!

it’s not just the product but the process

Has anyone noticed that Sabrina Carpenter's "Nonsense " is basically K-pop?

There are a lot of bigger problems in the world, but what is up with people doing Zoom calls in public places? The entitlement really irks me.

I'm interested in talking to any NOAA Fisheries employees who lost their jobs today, especially those in the PNW, at the Northwest Fisheries Science Center, or those who work on Columbia River salmon. DM me or hit me up on signal ericbarker.67

Last I checked, the Merlin app doesn’t work for birdsongs in Japan. Is there a Japanese app that does?

it’s snowed every day for a week

it’s too damn cold in the kitchen so I’m making breakfast on the wood stove

I'm looking for recommendations of English-to-Japanese literary (book) translators, and also Japanese-to-English interpreters accustomed to working with journalists. Please tell me if you know someone great (including yourself)! #translation #japanstudies #translators #japaneselanguage

Not every good idea has to be scalable. I wrote for @theatlantic.com about how hyper-local energy production fits into the global transition to renewables.

i watched literally TWENTY CALLS change an issue from 2-5 to 5-2 at city council one day.

ね〜ね〜 this is just adorable

"People are giving out a lot of stuff. That's really great, but I feel like what most of us need the most is money & homes or places to go. Bc if you give ppl a lot of stuff, they don't have PLACES to put that stuff." —12 yr-old fire victim Indi R, on what she wants folks to know in the aftermath

From experience I can tell you: if you are denied or what you’re offered seems extremely low, appeal!

Each person knows their own urgent needs better than anyone else. And stuff can just be cumbersome when you don’t have a permanent home.
