Itās definitely extremely voice dependent, which can be tough to capture!

Itās tough to be sort of in that between space. There are some editors who are looking to fill the void, but not enough. I typically advise aging up or down depending on the voice to give yourself a better shot.

I think a big part of it is B&N's strategy regarding MG. They basically decided not to stock debut authors in stores anymore.

Iāve had a bad stomach for months, but thought it was because of my gallbladder surgery. Turns out my Clinique lipstick had gluten in it! Hopefully itās resolved now.

Yeah! I knew it could be in cosmetics (got rid of my shampoo that had hydrolyzed wheat protein) but discovered this week that some lipsticks have barley and wheat germ and the vitamin e (tocopheryl) can also sometimes be derived from wheat (or soy and corn) and companies donāt have to label that.

You could take up sewing or knitting. I've done a few fun sewing projects (attaching applique lace to a dress, making a baby mobile with felt) and those have tangible outcomes, but are also relaxing. I like to pop on an audiobook or show I've seen before while I do it.

Definitely agree with you. I donāt think those rights are granted and the author reserves them. I also agree that any licenses should favor the author!

Definitely an interesting and tricky convo. Avidly following other responses!

Since Harper is now offering money for them, doesnāt that prove they have value? Also all rights not expressly granted are typically reserved to the author (most contracts state that in my experience).
