What a game in Zürich to round off the Swiss Cup QFs. FCZ took the lead through Steven Zuber, but then lost Rodrigo Conceicao to a 1st half red card. Cue a basketball match, as the two sides traded constant blows, even with Zürich's disadvantage. Ultimately, it's Young Boys who head through, 3:2.

Excellent article on proper centre-forwards from past to present. Plenty of modern day "bombers" in Switzerland, for those who appreciate the old school. Chris Bedia, Cedric Itten, Kevin Carlos, Lars Villiger. We love a big man.

Basel beat Etoile-Carouge 3-1 and head through to the SFs. A great effort from EC, but the Super League leaders were too strong. Lugano on the other hand... It's a HUGE Cupset in Biel! The Promotion League side have knocked out last season's finalists! It ends 2-0 & Biel are into the last 4!

Just like Lausanne, Basel leave it until 80+ mins to equalise.... and then take the lead! Gabriel Sigua levelled the scores, before Kevin Carlos put Basel in front with a wonderful header. All of a sudden, it's 1-2.

A beauty from Oscar Correia puts Etoile-Carouge in front against Basel! What a finish!

Drama in Bellinzona last night: Lausanne sneaking through on penalties to make the SFs. Tonight, it's two more ⬇️ League vs ⬆️ League games; Etoile-Carouge take on Basel, and Biel face Lugano. The favourites are clear, but we saw last night that nothing is easy in the Cup!

Great work from the Bellinzona fans, who have decided to make the cameraman's life a tad difficult by setting off some smoke directly underneath him 😂

Big news out of Winterthur: Fabian Frei will retire at the end of the season. It'll be hard to imagine the game here without Frei involved - he's been a mainstay long before I started watching - though it suits him perfectly to end his career at his first club. www.bluewin.ch/en/sport/foo...

The QFs of the Swiss Cup begin tonight, as Lausanne Sport travel to Bellinzona of the Challenge League. Despite Lausanne being clear favourites, recent history would say otherwise; Bellinzona have won 2 of the last 4 meetings between the sides, with the other 2 being draws. A possible cupset?

A very entertaining trip to Wil for their 2-3 loss to FC Thun. Proper post coming up tomorrow ➡️

Switzerland v Slovenia in the next round of the Conference League: Lugano will play NK Celje, current Slovenian champions, who beat APOEL in the previous round.

Ajax v Union St-Gilloise is getting very feisty. You really hate* to see this kind of blatant aggression on the field. *love

Super League results (16.2) Yverdon 1-0 St Gallen: Another huge result at the bottom, as Yverdon snatch a win at the death. Basel 1-1 Lausanne: Basel miss the chance to go top; Lausanne still with just one win this year. GCZ 1-2 Servette: A quick-fire, 2nd-half double takes Servette 4th ⬆️

Great goal from Matteo Di Giusto to win it for Winti against Young Boys.

Super League results (15.2) Lugano 2-0 Luzern: Lugano break their recent poor streak & head back to top spot. Sion 2-1 FCZ: 9th beat 8th as Zürich lose a 4th game since the restart. Winterthur 1-0 YB: Huge win for Winti against a recently rampant YB side. Their first since November 9th 🤯

Massive 1-0 win for Aarau against Thun in the Challenge League. That's 9 games unbeaten and a 6-game winning streak for Aarau, which takes them just one point behind Thun at the top. From looking like Thun were pulling away from the rest, Aarau have reeled them back in!

The rest of the Super League as Young Boys sit, 4-1 up, and in 4th place, just 6 points behind Basel in 1st.

Turns out it was too much to handle. Aarau storm back in the second half and win 4-2. They move one point behind Thun, who play on Sunday. Shout out to SLO, however. Lost tonight, but they've improved massively since an awful start to the season. Sitting comfortably in 6th place.

Slightly mad opening 15mins in Lausanne. SLO are already 2-0 up against Aarau, which would be their 4th win in a row, but Rayan Kadima has just been sent off for a nasty challenge. He's protested, but the replay shows it's a clear red. 75+ mins to hold on 😬

Super League results (6.2) Basel 2-1 Luzern: Luzern will feel hard done by, but 2 Shaqiri penalties send Basel back to the top of the table. Winterthur 0-2 FCZ: Steven Zuber gets his first as FCZ pick up just their 2nd win in 10 games. Winti, rock bottom, haven't won since Nov 9th 🤕

What a start in Basel. Levin Winkler put Luzern 1 up inside the first minute, before Kevin Carlos won a penalty a few minutes later. One Shaqiri panenka later, it's 1-1. Just gone 6 minutes.

Young Boys 6-1 Yverdon Who'd have thought? Put out a team of talented attackers and you might win a game or two 😉 Young Boys move into positive goal difference for the first time this season. Up to 7th place ⬆️

Witzig wins it! A one-two with Nsame, before Witzig thunders it past Saipi into the roof of the net. Suddenly, a door opens for Basel or Luzern tomorrow night... St Gallen win 2-1.

What a goal, Christian Witzig! Görtler chips the ball into the Lugano box, Witzig meets it, running across goal, and volleys it back across goal into the bottom corner. 1-1.

3-1 now. Marchesano for Yverdon, Bedia for YB from the penalty spot. Transfers work, people.

Paddy Sloan: Irish football’s trailblazer Thirty years before we had Liam Brady at Juventus, there was a striker in Milan that everyone should know about. by @cmcmenamy.bsky.social tmgitalia.net/posts/2025-0...

Young Boys' transfer activity already paying dividends - 2-0 up inside 10 mins against Yverdon; goals from Christian Fassnacht and Rayan Raveloson!

Super League results (4.2) GCZ 2-2 Lausanne: 17yo Tugra Turhan scored his first GC goal a few minutes after coming on as part of this 4-goal draw in Zürich. Sion 3-3 Servette: Madness. Sion though Kololli had won it for them late on, only for a *98th* minute penalty to rescue a point for Servette.

Super League results (2.2) Luzern 2-0 FCSG: Luzern keep pace at the top, still unbeaten since the restart. FCZ 0-1 Basel: Kevin Carlos keeps Basel in 2nd after Chouiar missed a penalty for FCZ. Yverdon 3-0 Winterthur: Yverdon take a huge 3 points, leaving Winti 6 points behind at the bottom.

Super League results (1.2) Lausanne 1-2 YB: 2 early goals earn YB 3 points at Lausanne, who lose 2 in a row. Lugano 3-2 Sion: A late penalty gets Lugano out of jail & will keep them top. Servette 1-1 GCZ: Niko Muci rescues GC in Geneva. Every league goal he's scored for them has been in a draw 🤝

Some big results in the Challenge League tonight: Stade Lausanne beat Etoile-Carouge 1-0, while Thun survived a spirited Schaffhausen side in a 3-2 win. That means Thun move 8 points clear of EC in 3rd. Wil also beat Xamax 2-0 to keep pace with the top of the table. Four losses in a row for Xamax.

Nikola Katic moving to Plymouth Argyle on loan was not something I saw coming at all from this window. Surely a massive loss for FCZ, and I'm not really sure what Katic would gain from leaving Zürich to fight relegation from the Championship...

Two huge transfer stories in 🇨🇭 football today: Jean-Pierre Nsame returns to Switzerland, but not where you'd expect. The former YB and Servette striker joins St Gallen on loan from Como! In Zürich, FCZ say goodbye to stalwart Antonio Marchesano, who joins Yverdon in their quest to avoid relegation

Some people have never played Pro Evo 6, and it shows.

The weekend leaves us looking basically as we were beforehand. ⬆️ Lugano still on top by a point, but Luzern up to 3rd behind Basel. ⬇️ Yverdon stay below GC after another good result for Grasshopper. Winti looked better against Lugano, but the loss leaves them rooted to the bottom.

🇨🇭 Super League results (26.1) Goals & red cards on the menu today! St Gallen came out on top against Lausanne, 3:2. Basel went 0:1 down before coming back to beat Sion 4:1 with a debut goal for Philip Otele. Luzern had 3 penalties in their 3:1 win over FCZ, who had 2 sent off on top of that. Mad.
