Recently did the annual walk through of our totally normal publishing system for my undergraduate research methods students. Never fails to boggle their minds.

Four large Dutch universities, including Leiden University where I work, have decided to throw international psychology bachelor programs under the bus in an effort to appease the rightwing government. Here's my blog why this is a terrible idea. eiko-fried.com/cutting-inte...

I frequently disagree with S-Kitch posts, but I don't even know where to start with this one...Are Maths & Physics a hot bed of anti-science? I haven't noticed! The current 2 or 3 ppl peer review doesn't exactly guarantee credibility & you can just keep trying journals until somewhere publishes it.

“Those who hold power in a discipline benefit from the idea that one must wait to engage in serious critique. Graduate students and those otherwise new to the field often have the ability to see things as they truly are.”

What are some articles, blogposts, essays, etc. that you still think about over a year later? Here are a few of mine:

New post! Should we hold back criticisms of scientific practices for fear that they will be weaponized by political attacks on science? Absolutely not. We need to recognize the distinction between scientific arguments and ideological arguments. getsyeducated.substack.com/p/science-re...

Anyone else exhausted by the inability to keyword search preregistrations? This looks amazing - what a service to the field!

About 2500 people in 28 F weather in little Duluth, Minnesota. MN Attorney General Keith Ellison was there to fire people up. #handsOff

A review of the signatories of the now-infamous 2020 Harper’s Letter shows that only 24% who put their name on the letter defending “Open Debate” have come out in opposition to Trump’s war on campus free speech. By me and @ahjohnson.bsky.social inthesetimes.com/article/demo...

On today of all days, with Princeton now in the Trump administration's crosshairs, I taught my undergraduates about standpoint epistemology, strong objectivity, and communities of knowledge. On how our unique perspectives as individuals don't threaten the scientific project. They strengthen it.

Lando's leadership of Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back turned out to be a tragically prescient parable for our time. Leaders of institutions: Pay attention! A story in four parts. cc: Paul Weiss, Columbia University bcc: all law firms, universities, and civil society organizations

The president of Princeton speaks out: “The attack on Columbia is a radical threat to scholarly excellence and to America’s leadership in research. Universities and their leaders should speak up and litigate forcefully to protect their rights.” www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Want to make nice graphs with me, starting this summer? I am hiring for two PhD positions at the University of Witten/Herdecke.

We are beginning our 2025 Replication Games season! We had 29 events last year, with 1300 participants. We kick off our season with replication games at the University of Minnesota. About 45 participants. The local organizer is @syeducation.bsky.social, and Derek Mikola is running the show.

7 years ago, I received funding for a project on personality, incentivized prosocial behavior & social status in groups. Today, we've made the anonymized data publicly available. Researchers can now use it by citing the preprint/paper (no need to add anyone as a coauthor): doi.org/10.31234/osf...
