Answers for best analogy on a postcard, lads! I'm going with "Universities call in butchers to stave off meat" as a starter

This isn't going to teach students anything. It will take their own work and homogenise it in line of some algorithmic expectations. We will then, to make the degree worthwhile, be expected to individually mark this cookie cutter output anyway - basically telling AI if it did a good job or not. 💀

This is a very instructive oped from Oren Cass. The baked in assumption is that Europe is weak and feckless. A client that will always be in search of a patron. Perhaps. But what’s also telling is there is just zero reckoning of the European project. The idea that Europe has… on.ft.com/44tA5Zg

Hands down the most staggering statistic I've seen this week (and it's been a wild one). Not gonna doubt the BBC on this but I'd like to know more!

This. An emergency recall of parliament on a weekend for British Steel. Nothing at all for UK HE which employs far more people, has already shed 10,000 academic jobs, with several institutions on the brink of collapse. A reminder: we train all the doctors, teachers, engineers, nurses, lawyers &c &c

Once again I marvel at these abilities to describe other systems they know nothing about with accurate critiques of the culture they themselves are a product of. Everything Andreesen says about Universities is actually true for SV VC douchbags like himself.

"GPs told they must refuse to help anorexic children until they start eating" Imagine the uproar. Puberty blockers aren't even illegal or harmful. State ordered discrimination and endangerment. That's all this is.

Labour's anti-trans agenda has gone even further than Conservatives. What Streeting is pushing is against majority of evidence, evidence which shows that his policies cause genuine harm to trans young people. This government's policies against trans young people will cost lives, that's the reality.

Fantastic thread that captures well why the populist "we'll bring manufacturing home" is at very best a really mixed bag for the "home" population, and may in fact make everyone - including the workers who didn't have these jobs before! - worse off.

"Just because he's doing the things a Nazi sympathiser would be doing doesn't mean he is one!" - coming to you soon courtesy of the NYT

It's really great that our government is so determined to avoiding relitigating all the bullshit that wasn't true in 2016 either that they're now semi automatically applying 2016 bullshit to 2025 policy decisions. Just absolutely brilliant. Can't wait to see how well it goes for the UK economy.

Starmer's intimates need to stop hitting all that whisky apparently under threat. Public opinion isn't an issue anymore, the inability of cherry pick is a luxury problem we can't afford economically, and lol, what divergence?!???? Where? Give me a break. This is UKIP levels of delusional.

Absolutely batshit quote in @patrickmaguire.bsky.social must-read column on Labour’s thinking about The Current Events

Wave of new followers after I got cranky about [everything]: Hiya. I'm a Reader in Transnational Public Law at a UK law school. My work life has been ruined by Brexit for 10 years. I also look at other public law things sometimes, and trade law when I absolutely must. My hobbies are... not law.

HALLELUJAH

[whispering from a grave] so do we have anything that might count as law/regulation/policy on the specific tariffs applying at this moment in time yet or [lies back down]

New voter just dropped: Dead Man www.economist.com/britain/2025...

How many times, in how many countries, do we have to go through the same dynamic, with the same result.

This is not rocket science but seems to have eluded 5 consecutive governments we have suffered through in the UK completely because they're addicted to kneejerk policy developed in response to over-simplified polling outcomes.

I mean, I feel this on a personal level, but also am not a complete moron, so understand this is something to talk to your plumber and not your President about.
