My estimation has been that one of two things would get us out of this quickly, 1. military countercoup and 2. widespread bipartisan institutional refusal. #2 is not going to happen. #1 might, but if it does there would be a redline we haven’t yet crossed.

In my dream world, a broad education is cheap or free and worthwhile regardless of one’s desired career path. One’s education and self-education are considered worthwhile pursuits, not merely in technical matters but in matters of wisdom as well. A love of literature and art are encouraged.

There’s a bit that happens midway through the third book of the Three Body Problem trilogy, Death’s End, that’s one of the most clever things I’ve ever found in a novel, something which demonstrates Cixin Liu’s clear intelligence and intent.

really kind of feels like the UN and NATO are on incredibly shaky ground as institutions, that defections — at least in part — are probable. The US + Israel and Russia may defect from the UN, one after another, as they oppose the goals and sentiment of the institutions.

I really wish I could more easily set up *groups* of follows. I want to have a group of tech nerds, a group of natsec nerds, a group of econ nerds, a group of schizotranssexual mystics, a group of microfic/artists etc and to be able to switch between them. I should probably figure out feeds.

Despite the fact I know this intellectually, it’s still hard for me to really emotionally come to terms with the fact that a sizable portion of people do not think structurally or really understand changes that take place over years or decades.
