My brother David Huerta has ALWAYS stood up for workers. Now it's our time to stand up for him. #FreeDavidEndRaids

A small joy in life right now is that Cadillac’s F1 team keeps posting TikToks, most recently partnering with Tommy Hilfiger, and the comments are just full of Spanish-language demands that they sign Checo.

American unions are imperfect entities with their own byzantine incentives, bureaucracies, etc., but they're nevertheless our best shot at defeating fascism in this country. We need labor leaders to embrace this fight in the streets, not just the courts. And we need to support them when they do.

BEYOND excited to vote for my friend Rebeca to be my 4th district representative. Check out her website to learn more about her. Truly the best of us!

Today, @rah.bsky.social launched her bold, progressive, grassroots campaign for KC's 4th District council seat with a LANDSLIDE of support from organized labor, small business owners, and stakeholders. Rebeca will be the first Latina EVER elected to KC's council. Support her today. rebeca4kc.com

@drewkc.bsky.social and I are participating this weekend in the @marchofdimes.org’s Regional #MarchForBabies in STL. 🧵

100% union project right here:

@kenmartin.bsky.social in all seriousness, let me know if you want to have a serious conversation about financially boosting the existing union media operations. Willing to bet that we could do transformational work with one of your most desired target audiences for an insignificant amount of money.

Do you know how much impactful work the labor papers with an existing (blue collar, mostly white men in unions) subscriber base across the country could do with just a little outside funding? The Labor Tribune in STL and The Labor Beacon in KC have like 90k combined subscribers.

Today, The Labor Beacon received news that Operating Engineers Local 101 would subscribe moving forward. The union represents 5,400 workers across western Missouri and Kansas. All of those union members are now subscribed to the paper. Big deal for our paper, with more big news on the way!

love having observation park as our front yard

IMAGINE VOTING AGAINST THE SESAME WORKERS UNION

jersey, but as a papal state

Will Kansas City, MO’s city manager announcement overshadow the new pope? TBD.

Perhaps more importantly, he almost certainly watched Back to the Future: Part 2 predict the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in 1989.

wild day at city hall and we aren't even past the special actions

In my inbox from @chicagolabor.bsky.social:

I have reached out to the Chicago Federation of Labor and have been informed they will have a press release on the Chicago Pope ™ out soon.

Our union brother Kilmar Abrego Garcia was illegally deported to El Salvador without due process. America’s unions stand with Kilmar and his family, who have suffered unimaginable pain the last few months. Bring him home NOW!

If you don't follow Rebeca yet, you should. Big stuff coming soon!

Rep. Sharice Davids is hosting her quarterly meeting with union leaders in her district. She has done this every single quarter for 4 terms now. Lots of discussion around how unions fight back and what Dem leadership is doing to respond to the seriousness of the moment.

this is such good news. i think it is also an opportunity for democrats to state forthrightly that when they win power again everyone responsible for this crime will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law and will face the american people to answer for their lawlessness

The Supreme Court ruled that the Trump admin must facilitate the return of SMART Union Local 100 apprentice Kilmar Abrego Garcia. They need to quit wasting time and bring our union brother home NOW!

You don’t have to work in a factory to be a “real worker” or to economically prosper. But you probably do need a union. www.laborpolitics.com/p/unions-not...

Emily rocks.

Basically every union in America would be better off discontinuing their in-house newsletter and going in with the other unions in their area to prop-up a labor news company that faces the general public AND their membership.

Pretty excited to announce that The Labor Beacon has added another subscribing union: IATSE Local 31, which covers western Missouri/eastern Kansas. This is the third new union we've added in the last six months, following IAFF Local 42 and UAW Local 31. More to come!

in college I worked with a kid who’s family ran some sort of literal backyard electronics parts company producing a single radio piece used by the military that his father had the patent for (?) which is as close to cottage industry electronics components I can think of

Independence, MO only passed one of three bonds tonight (Roads and Bridges) with the Parks Bond losing *very* narrowly and the Jail Bond losing handily. (57% required to pass)

Jeremy was the union endorsed candidate in this race. So far unions have only lost one race tonight.

The Public Safety/Jail tax has passed in Kansas City, MO by a little more than 3,000 votes. The measure was endorsed by (almost) every union in town, but received notable organized pushback from progressive and civil rights groups that made it much closer.

Congrats to the organizers on this, that’s a wild bit of history there.

We did it, y’all!

KCPS’s “Yes for KC Kids” campaign just put up monster numbers, 15,826 Yes votes to 2,711 No votes, with 12.13% voter turnout. (high for an April election here) The result is the first successful bond in the KC Public School system since the late 60’s.

For what it’s worth, early results for the KCPS Bond are a landslide “YES”. Will see what comes in.

According to the Missouri Ethics Commission, a new Elon Musk-inspired PAC has been created in Missouri, "MO DOGE PAC". The PAC lists its address as the same suite as the conservative law firm Graves Garrett Greim, where Todd Graves (Sam's brother) and Lucinda Luetkemeyer (Tony's wife) both work.

Hello! The US housing market has gotten very expensive, but I still dream of one day owning a home in a walkable neighborhood. In that spirit, I'm offering my consulting services. If you support the Trump tariffs, I can help you find US suppliers. Let me show you some examples. 🧵

@mayorq.bsky.social kicking off the Reconnecting the Westside Family Summit at Boulevard Brewing!

In my Inbox: KCMO has "launched a process for recruitment of the next permanent City Manager, inviting interested internal/external candidates to apply between now and Wed, Apr. 16." Mayor/City Council will review applications and determine the next steps, Mayor will make final rec to Council, etc.

JOIN ME TOMORROW: Reconnecting the Westside is hosting a Community Summit from 9:30 to 11:30 A.M. at the Boulevard Brewing Company. We need to focus on reconnecting the Westside, overcoming historic challenges caused by the construction of I-35 and I-670.
