I continue to believe that the discrepancy in the idea that the silicon valley "elite" read "seeing like a state" but still obsessively believe they can monitor and drive scaled efficiency across millions and billions of people is simply: they didn't actually read it

NEWS: For the first time, @dcattorneygeneral.bsky.social is suing three non-D.C. drivers for tens of thousands of dollars worth of unpaid traffic camera tickets racked up over a decade. The three drivers collectively have 226 tickets worth more than $90,000 in fines.

Remember reading a few years back that California had "ended single-family zoning"? She fooled you! That bill was ridden with poison bills. Now @scottwiener.bsky.social has dropped a new one that would do it for real. 1/4

Beautiful day at the top of Briones Regional Park

Accidents down 55% and injuries down 51% since nyc congestion pricing (!!!) www.nydailynews.com/2025/02/22/c...

I take pleasure in the simple things, like rewriting the zoning code to eliminate floor area ratio 😊

This week on The F5 I charted where the leading scorer on each team likes (and dislikes) shooting from relative to league average all sorts of fun to look and talk about here: thef5.substack.com/p/hot-shots

In this thread, I'll be sharing California YIMBY's 2025 legislative package. We are supporting an excellent group in legislators in running one of the most ambitious pro-housing agendas in California history—and this is only the beginning.

[BILL ALERT] AB 1154, by Assemblymember Juan Carrillo and co-sponsored by Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, will establish a single set of standards for ADUs under 500 square feet, making it easier for homeowners to access the benefits and flexibility that small ADUs create.

The next frontier in parking reform after minimum requirements: parking standards. How large the stalls must be, how flat the slopes must be, etc. Roomier standards essentially act as subsidies for SUVs and pickup trucks, forcing developers to accommodate them at everybody else’s expense.

Today, Trump DOT Secretary Sean Duffy announced he is auditing California High Speed Rail, in what is clearly a pretext to revoke $4 billion in federal funding, like Trump did last time. But is Duffy right about HSR's problems? Here's why not: 🧵 www.transportation.gov/briefing-roo...

The MTA explaining that ending congestion pricing should require an EIS under NEPA is one of the most beautiful moments in "what goes around comes around" history

By a 42-6 vote, the Washington Senate just approved a bill directing the state to adopt standards for passenger and freight elevators that are more reflective of global standards, including a specific requirement to allow smaller elevators in buildings with fewer than 25 units.

I just got this email from our statewide city association about @jessdbateman.bsky.social's parking bill, and boy it’s frustrating to see the org we pay dues to sending emails like this out. So frustrating that I will address their local control talking points in a thread.

"We’re going to unleash the public sector, but we’re still going to need more housing. That means taller builder buildings near subway stations, upzoning wealthy neighborhoods, and eliminating parking requirements." Left YIMBYism is the way, folks!

they believe the conspiracy theories and now that it’s their turn they try to run the world like their conspiracy theories, put in service new ends. except the world can’t be run like the conspiracy theories pretend it is run.

Every single parent in America knows that the biggest day-to-day threat to their kid is getting run over by a car. And yet, 99% of them just shrug their shoulders and say, "well, I guess we gotta buy a huge car and never let them walk/bike anywhere."

Someone posted an image of a "The Legend of Iowa" NES cartridge on Discord and I had a vision

You are reminded that "landmark preservation" is a scam, and the way it is practiced in Berkeley, California, is the biggest scam of them all.

Amazing Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco! So much energy & the largest crowds I’ve seen. San Francisco is so back.

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

How do I know House Rs plan to cut Medicaid & SNAP? Rep. Arrington put out a plan where he said he wanted to cut Medicaid & SNAP. His budget resolution reconciles the committees that have jurisdiction over Medicaid & SNAP. At markup, House GOP members keep saying they want to cut Medicaid & SNAP.

I’m starting a project to encourage San Francisco to celebrate Transit Operator Day, which is March 18th. If you love your Operators, I hope you’ll participate! www.sftransitoperator.day/home

Developers have basically stopped building 2BR/1BA apartments Having an equal number of bathrooms to bedrooms is a fairly recent historical development This chart shows the # of Bathrooms in 2-Bedroom apartments ... by the decade they were built. In Montgomery County, MD

You may know I was the lead lobbyist for AB 2097, the parking requirement bill mentioned in here. When I learned that AB 2097 would become the law, I picked up the phone and called Don Shoup. It's an honor I am still moved by today to say I was the first to give him the news. 1/2

Drivers: park your vehicles at least 20 feet -- or about one car length -- from the approaching side of an intersection. A new state law aims to help drivers fulfill a key primary responsibility: yielding to pedestrians at crosswalks. Learn more: berkeleyca.gov/commu...

San Rafael, CA is taking advantage of recent legislation (AB 43) to lower speed limits on many of its streets. Except for the east-west arterials of 2nd and 3rd Streets, essentially the entire downtown will be a 20 mph zone!

astounding policy failure that Los Angeles built less new housing during the long economic boom of the 2010s than it did during the decade when half of national output was going to fight World War II
