More joy 💜

Wasn’t prepared for the relief that washed over me from seeing he’s alive

we sent katy perry to space and you’re laughing??

The pedagogy of the creative "zine" as an AI-resistant student assignment..

Imagine thinking work and taxes should be anywhere near an accounting of the fullness of a life

Curious if any of the newsrooms reporting on the percentage of folks trafficked to CECOT with no criminal record included a list of names? I feel like we should know and say every name.

Baldwin will pull your attention into the most consuming, heart wrenching prose and then drop the funniest one-liner for no reason other than commitment to creative shenanigans 😂

Has anyone asked directly who, in their opinion/determination, has “authority”? Or, more specifically, how “authority” is defined in whatever agreement was signed?

Like I was just saying. I really really need people to sit with this. Especially as you praise your politicians who have spent decades upholding and profiting from these systems for their performance of outrage now.

Go basketball!

As prison labor camps are the topic of the hour, seems relevant to remind folks that we have them here too. That their construction, maintenance, and detention of folks without due process has always been a bi-partisan effort. That nothing changes if our relationship to carceral systems does not.

NEWS: In today's declaration filed by the government in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's case, the govt still provides no information or past or current efforts to facilitate Abrego Garcia's return. Instead, an asst dir of ICE suggests that Abrego Garcia "is no longer eligible for withholding of removal."

This is a great thread with super practical advice: pre-tenure PIs need to emphasize any and all wins and more senior PIs need to push back on unrealistic expectations about productivity. Despite all that is happening, we can still be a community that takes care of each other

After a bumpy start, the Baltimore Farmers’ Market returns full force

Once again petitioning for an edit button 😭😂

There’s been, in true liberal fashion, a trend I’m noticing of folks wanting to both name their awareness of the thing and justify whatever individual use case they’re talking about (“I know it’s bad but…”) and it is such a tell of what we expect of/from one another. Awareness, not accountability.

As I said at my job; AI is propelled by FOMO. People can be told that it cooks the planet, destabilizes creative industries, creates data quality issues, and exacerbates wealth inequality…but they still don’t want to be the person/company that misses out during the nonexistent gold rush.

As we face the possible closure of Goddard Space Flight Center and the cancellation of Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, which began its life as WFIRST, it’s timely that I got this archival document from 2011 in the mail yesterday: Women of Goddard, which included a feature on a young fellow. 🔭🧪

I really hope folks are finding ways to archive all these websites and databases for restoration in future

Issue 59 of Baltimore Beat is live. April 19 will mark 10 years since Freddie Gray’s death. This issue looks back on that tumultuous time in our city’s history. Our cover was designed by Wide Angle Youth Media.

Mid-career shift for me as a teacher: realizing that how I return feedback to students is way more important than what the feedback actually is In other words, no matter how much time/effort I spend on the feedback itself, it doesn't matter if I'm not intentional about how students receive it

I'm halfway through this article & like (and agree with) the points made thus far. But I want to have an aside on how people uncritically use the term "foundation models" & "reasoning," when it is very likely that the models memorized all these benchmarks. 🧵 prospect.org/power/2025-0...

I’m glad about the Court’s ultimate decision. BUT the way I read it, the District Court has to: “clarify” what “effectuate” means but “defer” to the Administration. The Administration is ordered to “share what it can”about the steps it’s taken “and the prospect of further steps.” I don’t love it.

There’s a lot of big life altering reasons to be frustrated and saddened right now, but will you hold space with me to grieve some of the smaller things too? What’s a small thing you fear you may need to let go of given *circling hand gestures* everything?

The 10% tariff alone is a $2500 per household annual tax hike!

Spoke with a class of brilliant graduate education students today and despite it being a lovely conversation with great questions, I’m feeling such grief. For them and us all and this moment in education. I wish I had answers for them. All I have are offerings that I have to hope will do for now.

I don’t think they are - am legit seeing this as I am actively reflecting about how if/when we get to the other side of this there will be people who insist *all* the actions of their institutions were forced compliance and capitulation rather than complicity and acceleration.

Sometimes I'm a little bummed that some of my former mutuals from Twitter haven't followed me back on here because I assume it was an active decision but then also sometimes I run into someone I haven't followed back and am like "wait wtf how did this happen"

It costs nothing to be normal in folk’s replies, y’all 😩😂

Saw a post telling folks to check out Asian grocery stores for cheaper prices and couldn’t comment/quote so I’ll say here as someone whose family frequents Asian/African/Latine grocery stores 1) Prices are rising there too 2) You should be aware/prepared to be observed by or interact with ICE

I think a fair number of adults are willing to try a YA, but there is such simple joy in a good middle grade! Highly recommend.
