World wide reach! WashU and our own Susan Dutcher were featured on the cover of Le Monte (Paris) during Stand Up for Science day.

Some of my favorite signs today. Sending love to my fellow aggrieved scientists!

Go Science!

Heading downtown by the Gold Dome in the ATL today! Federal funding to GA institutions totaled just over $1 Billion last year, and had over $30 Billion in economic impact on GA’s economy. That doesn’t even account for the cures and therapies supported by the research. #standupforscience2025

GET IN DORKS! WE ARE GOING PROTESTING! #standupforscience2025 @standupforscience.bsky.social

The @jcellsci.bsky.social has an upcoming special issue - Cilia and Flagella: from Basic Biology to Disease – guest edited by Pleasantine Mill (University of Edinburgh) and Lotte Pedersen (University of Copenhagen) . The submission deadline is 31 March. journals.biologists.com/jcs/pages/ci...

Multiple group leader positions in developmental biology in @ibdm.bsky.social Marseille, at an institute that produces some great work.

When your kids ask you what you did to save US science in the crisis of ‘25, you will say that you showed up! Please spread the word and join us!! @standupforscience.bsky.social

I’m standing up for the next generation of diverse scientists. The rare disease patients. The cancer patients. The species that may never walk the planet again. Women’s healthcare. “Right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.” @standupforscience.bsky.social

Come #standupforscience2025 this Friday in the ATL. Fund Science. Because lives depend on it.

Calling all PIs to kick in some cash to support #StandUpForScience rallies across the nation! Site takes donations via Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, credit cards. How about $20/per person in your lab? @standupforscience.bsky.social

Word of the Day is ‘ingordigiousness’ (18th century): extreme greed at the expense of principles.

Stand Up For Science next Friday (3/7)! In 2024, Georgia institutions received just over $1 billion in funding and had more than $30 billion in economic impact in GA. That's a PHENOMENAL return for tax payers- let's share that news!

We pay our academic editors (we don't do special issues with guest editors). Beginning in April, we also pay peer reviewers @biologyopen.bsky.social details to be announced at #biologists100 bit.ly/4h1cmCC @biologists.bsky.social

The "Stand Up for Science" rally is scheduled for March 7, 2025, from 12 PM to 4 PM also at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta. standupforscience2025.org/local-event-...

Praying this is not the end of SABV. And I truly believe what I said in this article - that all of us recognize the benefits of including both males and females in our studies, regardless of policy. @ossdcomm.bsky.social @sbn-bsky.bsky.social #SexXmatters www.thetransmitter.org/policy/exclu...

These cutbacks in US biomed PhD admissions are a national disaster with multi-generational consequences. For what it's worth, the umbrella PhD program I'm the director of at UMich (PIBS, Program in Biomedical Sciences) has not paused admissions or withdrawn any offers. 💙💛🧪

LOOKING FOR A NORTH CAROLINA LEAD! 🧪🚨☀️ Know someone who wants to help us Stand Up for Science? We’ve got volunteers and a mission, but no lead! #standupforscience2025

Thank you @nplb.bsky.social for speaking out in defense of patients, the US economy and our citizenship. Encouraged to see biopharma and investors among patients, health care providers, scientists and policy makers. www.nopatientleftbehind.org/defending-th...

Trump Administration Stalls Scientific Research Despite Court Ruling. Story by Ben Mueller. Gift link: nyti.ms/435szDm

NIH indirects case update: Hearing ongoing now, and I'll try to live tweet some notable exchanges. Prior to more detailed arguments, Judge Kelley starts off with a few point questions to both sides: (I'm paraphrasing here)

Diversity is our greatest asset, even if the government disagrees… They not like us! POC in STEM are here to stay. They tried to rig the game but you can’t fake influence! Mustard on the [Be][At] bro. Happy Black History Month!

Troubling: Congresspeople say they are NOT hearing from academics, or university administrators. PLEASE SPEAK UP! Oppose these budget cuts to research, health, student loans! www.votervoice.net/APAAdvocacy/... Tell others to do the same!

If you need an editor ✍🏻 please contact us, we have several professional writers volunteering to help. Happy Homecoming 🧪🧬🔬🏠

This is why I keep saying- if you are at a University, keep hounding your research office

my first bsky post! scientific societies are advocating as hard as we can right now to preserve and protect science & researchers. your individual (and collective) voices matter. raise 'em.

Nothing else to say.

Word of the day is ‘cumber-world’ (14th century): a person or thing that encumbers the planet.

A visualization I created to share with family and friends about how the NIH indirect rate costs will hurt science AND our economy.

You think evil is going to come into your houses wearing big black boots. It doesn’t come like that. Look at the language. It begins in the language. —Joseph Brodsky

NoA NOTIFICATION REQUEST Re-upping this request now that NIH staff are apparently allowed to make awards. If anyone receives a NoA starting today and continuing forward, please DM me with information about the mechanism and institute or center. THANK YOU I hope to full up my DMs with good news

This is outstanding! Watch it and share...

Trump is cutting "indirect costs" for NIH grants. It sounds benign. It's not. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

Triangle-area scientists! 📢 Rep. Foushee’s district is home to both Duke & UNC—let’s come together and ask how she plans to advocate for the diversity of scientists in our community on Capitol Hill. Here is a chance to show up and make our voices heard!

« Final thought: The best “fuck you” to fascists? Thriving. Publish that paper. Build that collaboration. Laugh with labmates. Science outlives dictators—but only if we stay in the fight. »

Each of the 149 shows in Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour generated about $31 million in local economic activity. Imagine suddenly and permanently losing 690 shows. The 15% indirect cost cap announced by NIH will deprive our communities of $21 billion in economic impact. #keepNIHstrong #science #episky

Get in dorks, we're going protesting! STAND UP FOR SCIENCE WITH US ON MARCH 7TH, 2025 WASHINGTON DC AND EVERY STATE CAPITOL Because science is for everyone! Find us at standupforscience2025.org #standupforscience2025 #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

How to get 146% return on investment? The NIH. That's just the economic benefit. Biomedical research promotes human health.

Trainees who applied for an NIH diversity fellowship whose applications were withdrawn/not being reviewed, there's a NYTimes reporter who wants to talk, especially interested in applicants with disabilities. DM me & I'll put you in touch, will keep all contact confidential. Please amplify
