Cutting spending is not the same as saving money. I can "cut spending" by not paying my bills one month, but I will not save money because I will have late fees. Many projects is the US government spend $1 today to save $10 down the road. That is the cost savings we need to be striving for.

The University of Minnesota crunched the numbers. They estimate that if NIH indirects are cut to 15%, our university will lose $100 million to $130 million per year. If the same rate cut is expanded to all federal agencies, we will lose $155 million to $188 million per year.
