Web UI for #BlueSky at least isn't terrible, it's not too far removed from the Android app, at least at first use. Time will tell how good it is. I had an Android app on my Chromebook, but can no longer update it. And I won't keep outdated apps on my devices, as they might be security risks.

Why isn't the #BlueskyApp compatible anymore from the Play Store on my #Chromebook? #Samsung & #Acer Chromebooks Suggestions for other clients are welcome.

It's neat to see that a short story by such a well-known author can be rediscovered after 134 years. Bram stoker's story "Gibbet Hill" was published in an Irish newspaper in 1890 and rediscovered just this month. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibbet_...

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #453,591!

I learned of #cwtch indirectly by learning of the secure, surveillance-resistant IM protocol (think onion-routed direct messages), see more at cwtch.im -- not sure what use I might have for it, but still it's interesting to know it exists.

I just learned a very cool new Welsh word, "cwtch", pronounced like "kutch" (rhyming with "butch"). It means a hug, but not just a hug, but a hug that's an offering of warmth and safety. #cwtch

Using Obsidian (for the notes) + Syncthing (to keep the content the same across devices) has really helped.

I have pretty much finished the reorganization of my notes on the current story (my WiP). There was a lot of cruft to remove as well as rewriting the notes to actually make sense.

“Opening Doors” (Therapy Thoughts Series, 2024) #furryart #art #therapythoughts “When you can’t find any doors, open your own and hope it leads where you want to go.”

Oh also new bluesky people, if you have a problem with trans people, sex workers, or furries you need to go now because these groups are integral to this social media platform.

But it's OK, I still pushed my story updates to several other remotes ( GitHub, Azure, GitLab, BitBucket, HelixTeamHub ). I don't really need 6 backups.

ROTFL the site I went to to report an error in one app, itself gave me an error when I tried to submit a report. "updownradar.com" gives me a SQL error on submit. And keybase is snafu'd on MacOS.

I find it kinda cool that the US national crisis hotline's short number spells out "ZUT" (i.e. 988). For those who don't know, "zut" is a mild curse in French (and it's still so for those who do).

The factions year agreed upon electing Lakshmi of House Rangifer as queen each thought they'd manipulate her for their own ends. But she's a veteran of academic politics and so is hard to control. She's a petrologist in the faculty of Earth Sciences at Dawson University, Whitehorse campus.

Arun is of House Rangifer (cariboo/reindeer). He's rather naive in believing the official account of now his country's politics work, as his house is very peripheral, after the "mad" king centuries ago. But any senior noble of their house can be elected monarch for the 20 year term.

When he gets back to Whitehorse he's abducted by the security force of one noble house, so he can't be held as leverage in case his mother gets elected Queen. And although he escapes, his mom is elected and so his old life cannot continue.

Ok so the protagonist of my story is now going to a rave in the ruins of a mansion where his ancestor and personal guard were taken out. It's somewhere in Yukon and it's cold. He finds the spirit--drum and holds it. He breathes on his hands to warm them, and reawakens the drum.

Is there any reason to have "invite codes" here anymore? My profile view still shows I have 5 invite codes left.

Guys, Amazon deforestation is down 50% this year! It's worth saying twice: Amazon deforestation is down 50% this year!!!!!!! 2023 was also the best year ever for reforestation and carbon reduction! We're doing it! We're really doing it! #ShareGoodNewsToo

Does anyone have experience writing (or even has read) a story with a two-tier inciting incident?

Each of those two events dramatically change his life. He can't continue in graduate school (it'd be violation of academic integrity for the royal to study there), and the other puts him in legal jeopardy (and risks his country being warred on).

Not quite sure how to work it when my story has two events that could be inciting incidents. 1) his status, role in society changes (becomes prince, and can't continue study) and 2) is accused of casting a curse on another nation's crown prince.

I am excited that a participating gym has a pool, and want to take advantage of that, assuming the benefit includes pool use.

I finally got a gym membership benefit, and today I wake up with vertigo. I'm better than when I work up, somewhat, but still need to wait until that's gone before I use the benefit. Also should see a physiotherapist first that training program wouldn't be too much.

One of the best things that came up from today's writing so far, is that Arun can communicate and see Ai when he's dreaming. Ai's human form is dominant at first, with ghostly animal form, but slowly, the animal form becomes relatively more prominent. #TickingClock (metaphorically).

Ok, today, so far, c. 1500 words. Two sequences, opening where Arun's mother is elected queen; and the state dinner where prince Ai is cursed to take on the form of a snow leopard. It's nearly enough, if I hadn't missed 4 days, to be on track. So I'm c. 6.4k words short still from NaNo goal.

I've been watching the Story Grid Youtube channel. The posts are short and very packed with usable tips for fiction writing. Thank you to Tim Grahl and Sean Coyne for creating it.

Having a status change at the very start, followed by the need to break the curse on Ai, will give him 2 major life changes, upsetting how he had been living, in quick succession. Still like that he's one of the few who can work on the drum, because it's linked to his family.

So, more realizations about my WiP. Arun is a student in artifact restoration/conservation. And also realized that maybe also he's not crown prince to start, but his mom is elected queen right after the story starts.

Also, Arun's mother, Lakshmi, doesn't become queen until into the story, after a nasty PR battle of various factions leaves no one else agreeable standing. And after she consolidates power, they'll then want Arun to follow when her term is up. He's not thrilled.

So it seems Arun is a graduate student in museum studies - artifact conservation. Policy is that only people of certain lineages can handle some artifacts - so those of Yukon's royal house he can work with. One such drum becomes his "shaman's horse."

As a result of this, Ai will have his pelt, which had been his skin and fur while in ounce form. He can put it on again if he ever wants to return to ounce form, and shed it when he wants, now that it's been done once.

The scene to break the curse is in part inspired by a line in "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters, about "breathe out, so I can breathe you in" which combined with Arun's developing shamanic magic, Arun pulls Ai's soul into himself, and then they both flow into Ai's body and then back to their own bodies

This means the plot and the subplot are now more intertwined than ever. To avoid war between Alaska and Yukon, Arun (MC, 1st person POV) must break the curse on prince Ai, to return him to his human form. The two princes grow to love one another.

Because it was something that Arun said, he's tasked by both his mother, Queen Lakshmi, and expected by the Alaskans, to work on removing the curse on crown prince Ai.

My MC (Arun) has accidentally (on his part) triggered a curse on prince Ai of Alaska, morphing him into a snow leopard. It is obscure magic that requires a compliment by a royal. Arun awkwardly tried to flirt with Ai by complimenting him, which fulfills the conditions to trigger the curse.
