Finally closing my 2024 #30DayMapChallenge! Wrote a blog summarising what I learned, the behind-the-scenes challenges faced, and the fun I had creating maps last Nov. Check the blog and maps out here: 🗺️🔗 mappyurbanist.com/blog/2025-02... #gischat

Here's a cool, simple technique I learned from Joey Cherdarchuk ( @obumbratta.com ): in a choropleth map, your legend can double as a histogram - showing both the colour coding ánd the data distribution. #maps #dataviz

Congrats to the winners, all really amazing and makes me want to try it out for myself

One of my favorite packages is learnR: rstudio.github.io/learnr/ It's something that I've been interested in using more especially with teaching more technical stuff.

"possibly"

Die #Ukraine verteidigt unseren Frieden und unsere Sicherheit. Sie gehört zu #Europa. Sie gehört in die Europäische Union.

So I’ve just discovered you can use the R packages gander and ellmer to chat with AI assistants directly in RStudio. Sooooo much easier than copy pasting chunks of code into ChatGPT. simonpcouch.github.io/gander/

Fired up the supercomputer to see what the League One table might look like come the end of the season. No real surprises but I still have doubts about whether Birmingham City will break Wolves' record points total, especially after yesterday's performance. #rstats #bcfc

Spent the morning trying to stay upright on the trails after it had rained last night. Still feel woefully underprepared for a trail marathon next month.

For those who didn't know, I've been creating maps for over 10 years, and for the past 6 years, I've been participating in the #30DayMapChallenge. During this time, as part of the challenge, I've created 157 maps about Ukraine using open data. You can find my portfolio here www.behance.net/gontsa

Trying to do some more football related stuff so here's a starter for 10: total shots ratio and points in League One. #rstats #dataviz

@lionelhenry.bsky.social and I are so excited to finally announce Air - an extremely fast R code formatter! 🎉 With Air, you'll never need to worry about styling your #rstats code ever again. All you need to do is save, and Air takes care of the rest. www.tidyverse.org/blog/2025/02...

I really liked this idea of using a histogram as a legend in a choropleth map (since land isn't unemployed; people are), so I made a little guide to doing it with #rstats, {ggplot2}, and {patchwork} www.andrewheiss.com/blog/2025/02...

#30DayMapChallenge day 30 - the final map As everyone is talking about peace and peacekeepers, here's a map of reported incidences of violence against peacekeepers during sub-Saharan Africa operations that resulted in fatalities, injuries, or kidnappings between 1989-2009. #rstats #dataviz

New #rstats pkg gander is now on CRAN! gander is a coding assistant that knows how describe the objects in your global R environment. So, when you're working with data, LLMs will know the names, types, and distributions of data columns, resulting in much more effective completions.

When analyzing tracking data in R, you may want to explore the locations. R also offers interactive mapping features. In this post, I’ll walk you through the steps I used to create interactive maps using #tmap www.miriam-lerma.com/posts/2024-1... #rstats #GIS #tracking

#30DayMapChallenge day 29 - Overture Not feeling this one but it gave me a chance to go back to where I started on this - Birmingham City FC. I used @alexsingleton.bsky.social's guide to querying the CDRC Points of Interest dataset to find all places named 'Birmingham City'. #rstats #dataviz
