Glasgow, Scotland based SFFH fan and sometimes conrunner. Less so these days since disabilities have worsened. Happy to eat tofu, not ashamed to be “woke”. Trans rights matter, queer rights matter, if you think otherwise, awa’ an bileyerheid.

Begging a reporter to ask a Labour MP what they actually mean when they say it is important that trans people have 'dignity'. What does that look like? What does that even mean?

The US should not be hosting the Olympics.

"Separate the art from the artist" comes up a lot. My opinion is that, like so many things, it is on a spectrum. A long-dead entertainer with a brilliant body of work who, we later discovered, kicked puppies is NOT the same as a living, active entertainer who uses revenue to buy puppies to kick.

More museums/institutions/public spaces with the guts, the principles, the moral fortitude to say: yeah, no, bigots not welcome here

The fight for the rights and dignities of trans people is a fight against the thin edge of fascism. It's a hill we are willing to fight and die on. If you'd like to support us with a donation dedicated to trans rights, you can do so here. I am donating £1,000. goodlawproject.org/crowdfunder/...

great how a billionaire has essentially been able to buy the reversal of trans legal protections for a sum of money that's probably trivial to her

It's great seeing MPs showing support for the trans community, honestly, love it. What I'd love more than just words on the internet, however, is some tangible fucking action. Any chance of that?

Absolutely this. There have been times in my life I was too disabled to work. For the first year or so of my podcast I wasn't paying income tax because I didn't earn enough money. And *most* of my life I've been unable to get laid (not because of my autism, just because I'm ugly and unpleasant)

You know democracy is going well when the decision to remove the rights of an already marginalised community is celebrated in "serious" analysis for allowing politicians "to dodge difficult questions" Smells increasingly like the Weimar republic to me...

Fun fact, JK—who is English—single-handedly funded the Scotland remain movement during the referendum, and called separatists “bigots”. She’s the reason there’s no independent Scotland. She throws her money and clout around like she’s fucking Nigel Farage. She’s a billionaire corrupting politics.

Alan Bates is considering Privately Prosecuting the Bosses of the Post Office for Corporate Manslaughter. RT If you support him, it is the only way there will be justice.

A film that takes place where you're from.

I seem to recall there was a US state which tried to do just that.

we made a critical error allowing reactionaries to make-up concepts like “biological sex” and frame them as non-ideological when it’s the exact opposite: people who undergo HRT *are literally changing their biological sex.* this is not some philosophical distinction, it is actual biological reality.

The BBC News channel still going on about the UKSC ruling and leading on Falkner furious that NHS England haven’t yet produced guidance that is horrible to us directly. Nobody seems to care about the impact on our lives, just “vocal elements” who disagree it. Rachel Reeves welcomes the “clarity”

People carried their wealth with them.

Theyre always defining what a woman is, never what a man is. If these people had any semblance of intelligence theyd grasp the reason for thst is not feminism.

The online Tun is tonight and I like the idea of seeing some friendly fannish faces, but I don't think I'm up to it yet. Still feel... discombobulated? That's a nice word for it. Best wishes to everyone, though, and for anyone in/heading to Belfast,I hope you have a brilliant weekend.

Cass report - Sex Matters etc consulted, trans participation refused. FWS Supreme Court case - Sex Matters etc consulted, trans participation refused. Puberty blocker ban - Sex Matters etc consulted, trans input ignored. That should be everything you need to know.

It's so exciting to have acquired more Adrian Tchaikovsky science fiction for @torbooksuk.bsky.social! These will be every bit as big, bold and exciting as you might imagine - starting with the epic Children of Strife (out next spring)! trade.panmacmillan.com/tor-uk-acqui... @aptshadow.bsky.social

There are men who don't believe women have a right to bodily autonomy currently writing articles celebrating today's ruling as a victory for women's rights.

If you're wondering why any particular member of a group with a unanimous court ruling against their rights hasn't said anything on it, consider that there might not be more for this group to say besides "We warned you" and "I told you so," which is less a victory than you might think 🙃

This is the group who got Roe overturned. The reason 10 year old rape victims have to flee state. The reason women sit in car parks until they are close enough to death.

Is it just me getting "internal server error" from the BlueSky app?

"We have instances now in western countries where people are being arrested [...] the cop comes knocking on their door, you're going to go to jail for 60 days for posting something online. You know, this is crazy stuff that's happening all over." Marco Rubio on April 16, 2025, if you can believe it

If you enjoyed Harry Potter but hate transphobia, here are better books about having teen angst at magic school 💙📚: • A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik • Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir • The Magicians by Lev Grossman • A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher [1/2]

Been thinking about this Zappa quote a lot lately.

Today is the 5 year anniversary to when I slowly started losing my mind during the pandemic and began dressing up as works of art. As my Twitter account has long been abandoned, why not make a thread of my madness on BlueSky? This was “The Maid” by Wilhelm August Lebrecht Amberg, from 1862

BREAKING: On Friday, the federal government issued new demands of Harvard University. The university's lawyers just responded: back off.

Today I'm finding out which people believe that if you're part of a population that is a small overall percentage of humans on the planet, it's okay to strip you of rights. I wonder if they have considered how easy it would be to classify *them* into a small overall percentage, and do it to them.

Ok, it's a little unfair to @aptshadow.bsky.social , but I am irresistibly reminded of the old Punch cartoon of the man running up to a railway station bookstall demanding to know if “the lunchtime Edgar Wallace” were out. 😄
