@cnn.com wants to hear from federal workers. www.cnn.com/2025/02/06/p...

Meanwhile, egg prices.

"Shutting down CFPB enforcement actions that are on the verge of delivering money into the pockets of working people is at odds with President Trump’s claim that he wants to lower costs for families – which he has done next to nothing on so far." – @warren.senate.gov

2 insurrections, same President.

How about “No taxation without representation?“ The Musk regime is claiming the right to take our money without heeding the laws made by our elected representatives.

President Trump is gutting the IRS in the middle of tax season—pushing out staff, freezing hiring, and putting taxpayer services at risk. Low-income filers, seniors, and working families will pay the price while billionaires keep dodging taxes. This is tax season sabotage.

I know that Donald Trump has been very busy sending Elon Musk to go through our underwear and threatening wars with our closest allies, but when is he going to do something about the price of groceries?

Got a big piece here for you on the CHIPS Act two years in: its goals, its intentions, and where it has failed on labor, environment, and tackling Wall Street. prospect.org/economy/2025...

This is really astute. www.unpopularfront.news/p/what-happe...

As I discuss in my book, Attack from Within, authoritarians demonize anyone who checks their power. Trump is trying to villainize the honorable prosecutors and agents who enforced the law against his “Stop the Steal” minions. Don’t fall for it!

“Democrats figured out the hard way that they couldn’t rely on Gabbard,” @elainegodfrey.bsky.social writes. “Republicans may soon learn the same”: www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Thread: Tariffs are useful to protect strategic industries like steel, semiconductor, aluminum from unfair foreign competition. But Trump is imposing these on nondurable goods (cucumbers, tomatoes, avocados) and on allies making Americans pay more for groceries. Some questions:

Democratic governments are transparent, open, and "cognitively responsible"--meaning that they want to share information and be held accountable for their actions. This ain't that. Show me how you communicate and you tell me everything about your political theory.

Marge Greene’s bf Brian Glenn grills Trump: “A lot of Americans think this is symbolic of what your campaign was all about - America First. You’re putting American people first, your thoughts on that?” Trump: “I like that question. I want more questions like that. Very professional.”

Follow the money

This is like intentionally bringing on the Dark Ages. ("But have you seen the price of eggs?")

Over the weekend we released an impact evaluation of student debt cancellation using credit reporting panel data. marshallsteinbaum.org/wp-content/u... Large cast of coauthors! @edinilaj.bsky.social, @laurabmw.bsky.social, Sultana Fouzia, @stpinto.bsky.social, Mike Pierce & Jack Landry. #econsky

I keep making the point that tariffs are a tax on us, both because it's true, and also because it is so widely misunderstood.

The idea that American big tech firms are actually supportive of American business is belied by the fact that over half of top Amazon sellers are now based in China. www.marketplacepulse.com/articles/ame...

"the case for helping California get through this is moral: Americans should help Americans.... But this also seems like a good time to remind people just how much the Golden State contributes to American greatness." -- @pkrugman.bsky.social paulkrugman.substack.com/p/in-praise-...

Americans didn’t vote for us to invade Greenland or Canada or Panama. They want lower costs, fair taxes, and a decent shot at getting ahead. Get it together.

LA friends, if you’ve lost your home, I’m so sorry. In case it helps, here’s some stuff I wish I’d known: 1. Make detailed contemporaneous notes about every conversation you have with your insurance company.

How it started. How it’s going

Re-posting this for two reasons. Minor reason: Rep. Pete Aguilar, friend and former mayor of Redlands CA, is part of next wave of talent and leadership for Dems. Major reason: WT actual F ???? Can this be true?

Helpful explainer:

Meanwhile the entire reason we are all effing here is because nine years ago Bill Clinton stopped on a tarmac to talk with the AG about *his grandkids* and that apparent “breaking of norms” started the whole ball rolling (Comey going rogue, etc. etc.). But of course this is fine. I give up

Thank goodness for people like former WAPO cartoonist @anntelnaes.bsky.social, American hero. This may only be the rough of the cartoon she planned to run before she was told she couldn't, but it speaks volumes, perhaps, especially in this form.

🔥 KEY STAT: 60 PERCENT of H-1B positions certified by the U.S. Department of Labor are at wage levels below the local median wage for the occupation. Listen to the new episode of LEVER TIME - and pass it on 👇

Today, Medicare’s $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket drug costs goes into effect. That’s good progress, but we still have a long way to go. We must take on PHARMA greed. Americans should not be paying the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. We must make health care a human right.

It is outrageous that the Department of Defense is spending $32 billion a year on consultants and the federal government $70 billion. Studies show consultants add 20 percent cost more than civilian employees b/c they bump procurement. www.thebignewsletter.com/p/cutting-go...

Crazy idea, stick with me... Law, but for rich people.

“Candles of joy, despite all sadness Candles of hope, where despair keeps watch Candles of courage for fear ever present Candles of peace for tempest-tossed days Candles of grace to ease heavy burdens Candles of love to inspire all my living Candles that will burn all the year long” ~Howard Thurman

Don’t give into despair this Christmas. We can always choose to be better people: www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...

Brief thread on how we got here: Since the GOP won control of the House 2 years ago they have not passed a single appropriations package into law. Government has operated at funding levels set by Dems 2 years ago via continuing resolutions every few months. This is not normal.
