I think its time to crawl into bed and put the The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethan England audiobook on. Not sure If I'd have survived Tudor times.

Sainsbury's moved the Cereals and Crisps around. I don't like it, Crisps next to sugars and jams, and Cereals next to chocolate and other sweets.

5 years this May. I'm still processing it in a lot of different ways. The lack of post diagnostic support is just maddening.

This is the original photo. I didn’t resize it as I wanted a tighter crop so not me being lazy.

Always nice to get a photograph, printed and mounted. It’s a wonky tree that’s been around for a long time clinging on for dear life in port meadow.

A little bit of possibly good news. deadline.com/2025/02/buff...

What is autism? Worth a quick run-through of the modern understanding of autism, since so many teams are still using the outdated DSM-5 descriptions from 2013. So many changes in the last 12 years. This is all from research studies. Thread. It's part of wider neurodivergence, a brain difference/

Privthi Perepa, associate professor in autism studies at the University of Birmingham found that in 2021-22, schoolchildren from Pakistani and Indian backgrounds were less likely to have been registered as autistic than their white British counterparts.

It's my Birthday and it's raining. At least I had the presence of mind to book my B12 injection for tomorrow and not today.

Our gentle reminder that there's ~ 2 million autistic ppl in the UK. Research shows we are less likely to commit crime than other ppl, on average. Having an autism diagnosis is irrelevant to whether they are a criminal. It's like saying, "They have size 8 feet - let's fear all ppl with size 8 feet"

Some actually disgusting takes on the Gaiman article today. It's ok for victims to tell their story about a famous, well respected man who is considered a "good one" actually, fuck off.

Whilst these of course are meant as satire, goodness me there's some truth in them. Glad to be part of so many teams who are working hard to change this.

New research. Groups often offer 'social skills training' to allegedly 'improve' our social skills. Does it work? No. We're just as autistic afterwards, & still use our own natural social skill set. They recommend working with us, in future. What a good plan. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39690375/

When I was young, I didn’t know I was autistic. I read all the time. I read on the way to school and at break times. I read all day. It was my way of escaping a world I found too difficult to process and cope with. Books were my way of putting up a barrier to cope with the world.

“Just smile, nod, fake some eye contact by looking between their eyes. Why DO we have two eyes? Wouldn’t it make more sense to have one massive eye? I should have paid more attention in biology but I was busy pretending to listen then too.” thedailytism.com/autistic-man...

Autistic people are neurodivergent. Neurodiverse applies to everyone. Not that hard to understand and use the correct language. Autistic people have unique challenges when it comes to employment.

Yesterday was not fun. Felt fatigued and spent most of it in bed. It's B12 related, I'm at least a month away from my next injection. My oral B12 spray is out of date, dang it.

My experience of lithium was that it turned me into a “zombie” and I hit the toxicity level fairly quickly. I loathe these kinds of studies that frames autism as a disease that needs to be “cured”. Lithium didn’t help me one bit (taken for bipolar disorder). neurosciencenews.com/lithium-auti...

Nothing wrong with the scheme, just another right wing attack on disabled people’s independence.

Excellent thread. I don’t subscribe to levels and functioning labels. We all need support of varying degrees. Autism fluctuates on a daily basis so those needs change quite a bit. When you hit burnout those needs will skyrocket.
