It matters that scientists speak out against what is being done to US science. Staying silent is neither "objective" nor "staying out of politics". Silence now *is* political - it supports the status quo, says "nothing to worry about". We need to sound the alarm. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Just found a dinosaur that is named after four different people. Is that a record? What is the most amount of peoples names crammed into one dino? Calling @profpaulbarrett.bsky.social @tweetisaurus.bsky.social @stevebrusatte.bsky.social @arctomet.bsky.social @pdmannion.bsky.social

Me, working on my little articles and book projects in February 2025:

In today's climate, getting a grant is super hard. Yet I'm seeing more and more colleagues getting hammered for arbitrary and poor reasons when we review each others grants. Don't do this. Unless there is a fundamental issue, you should be supporting your colleagues, not ripping them down.

I'll be in London this week, come say hi!

Oh look a wild @orlabe.bsky.social appeared on Bluesky. Drop her a follow, there is some very exciting rotten fossil research coming soon!

On the last day of #crustmas my true love gave to me... Krebs. 😯🦀♋ A Bavarian plaque on the historic town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

A major highlight of my year was hosting #PalAss24 here in wee Erlangen 🇩🇪 Massive thanks again to our volunteer team extraordinaire, to the amazing lead organisers @emmadnn.bsky.social & @taphonomist.bsky.social & to everyone else involved! And you’re all welcome back any time!

Something lovely for the weekend! Marvellous clay pots with octopus decoration made by artisans from Bronze Age Crete about 3,500 years ago! 🐙❤️ Heraklion Archaeological Museum. 📷 by me #Archaeology

#FossilFriday: Two little smooshed salamanders. The fossil in the front was found by a hiker and donated to the museum. Salamander fossils in general are rarely preserved, and it is even more uncommon to find one preserved with this amount of detail. Look at the little feet! #BarrysBest

So excited to see this paper finally published! 🥳 This was the main focus of my PhD and demonstrates the application of model adequacy for models of morphological evolution. 1/n academic.oup.com/sysbio/advan...

Although #PalAss24 was a whirlwind, the highlight for me was going to Grube Messel, an iconic 47 million year old German Lagerstätte. Of all the hundreds of stunning fossils we saw, this stag beetle took my breath away. With preserved colour as well! Stunning. 🪲❤️

#PalAss24 at FAU Erlangen is a wrap! Congratulations to all our fantastic presenters, trivia winners, and dance party enthusiasts! Huge thanks to the chairs for their leadership and support @emmadnn.bsky.social @taphonomist.bsky.social @rachelwarnock.bsky.social

Congrats and thanks to all the organisers of #PalAss24 for a really excellent meeting!

Had an amazing time at #PalAss24: Awesome job by the organisers @rachelwarnock.bsky.social, @taphonomist.bsky.social and @emmadnn.bsky.social, as well as all volunteers! For #fossilfriday some lovely Jurassic chondrichthyans from Solnhofen I saw on the preconference fieldtrip
