As always - I´m only back from Japan for a few days and I already miss the country. Seeing this picture I took of Shinagawa station this morning felt rather weird. And Shinagawa isn´t even my favorite part of Tokyo by quite a margin...

An important classic is turning 35: With Final Fantasy III, Square ALMOST had found their formula. There´s a job-system, the story has many interesting ideas, there´s summons, Chocobos and a great soundtrack, the often extremely high difficulty sadly drags it down a bit. Still - a fascinating game.

It's sunday, April 27. - one of the big holidays: World Tapir Day! Everyone, enjoy the celebration!!

Soo, I´m back from Japan. The flight back was long (Shinagawa -> Narita -> Zürich -> Frankfurt > Aschaffenburg) but surprisingly smooth. Okay, the drunk football-crowd at the end wasn't necessary but... eh. So if you´re interested: That's the stuff I bought for my own pleasure.

Akira Shoji was the NMK planner behind several arcade STGs of theirs, including Hacha Mecha Fighter & the P-47 series. You'd never know this, as (at his own behest) he was uncredited on nearly everything he touched. He later assumed the alias "Saburo Yotsuya", designing RPGs such as Dungeon Maker.

Random game saturday - Psychic World for Game Gear. The western cover is very, very unappealing, but the game is quite fun and has a nice soundtrack by Izuho "Ippo" Numata.

One intercontinental and one (hopefully) good night's sleep and I can find out myself if it lives up to my expectations.

Fantastic news!!

An overcast morning in Tokyo - I'm already on my way to Narita Airport. What a fun, fascinating, intense week!

A wonderful final day in Tokyo with fantastic stuff I can't talk about yet and a fantastic evening with great people on a boat before Odaiba. Food and music were great, but I still crashed on my way back. God, I'm tired. Tired, but happy.

A bit of unexpected free time allowed mento go to Ramen Street at Tokyo Station and try the tonkotsu at Oreshika Jun. I came at a good time - no lines, no crowds. And well... the ramen was fantastic!!

Man, I could hardly recognize Shibuya Station and subsequently got spectacularly lost.

Good times on a tuesday evening in Tokyo.

The day was well spent visiting Kojima Productions and posing with the founder himself for this amazingly edgy picture. #hideokojima

A bit of shopping, some fantastic food and some surprising encounters Yesterday... And a move to a different Hotel - today marks the start of the second part of my Japan-trip. More on that soon.

Well, I'm in Tokyo, I've got a bit of time on my hands and I'm near Mikado Ikebukuro... Of course I'll pop in and do a little 1cc run of SenXin Aleste. Because why not? The M2-game rocks!

East Ikebukuro Central Park. It's a park. There's cats. What's not to like?

He knows what's up

A fantastic day with @megamatttv.bsky.social and @mayuyumemi.bsky.social in Akihabara with awesome food, some ridiculous prices and brilliant arcade games. Rave Racer and Scud Race both aged beautifully!!

Mottainai flea market in Nakano.

Huh, the hotel I booked for price- and geographical reasons (3 minutes from Shin Okubo Station) gives me some real 80s love-hotel vibes. THE ROOM HAS A VHS-PLAYER!!?

Oh, I completely forgot about random-game-saturday! So, er... it's not on my shelf, but I just bought this. This counts. Don't mind the cough-drops.

The line was long, but it was worth the wait. KIKANBO! KIKANBO! KIKANBO!

Aaah, Tokyo. I didn't expect to be back so soon! It's only a few days, but I'm determined to make the most of it.

So right now it's a thing to share old game-receipts? Okay, I have this one. Castlevania: The New Generation (the PAL-version of Bloodlines) - bought in perfect condition on June 24. 1997. Back then, I paid 30DM - today, that would be about €25. Yeah, that was a lucky catch, don´t hate me.

Yesterday saw the kick-off to my new elective: Adapting the Weird - it's about Weird Literature, the New Weird and digital games. We´re starting in 1895 and make our way to the present. Visible here: A cliché-slide and the general rules for the elective. Good thing everyone could agree on those.

What a day for afficionados of the stranger kind of game: Illbleed on Dreamcast, Pandora's Tower on Wii and Soul Hackers on 3DS have their 24. and 12. US-anniversary today and all three are absolutely wonderful if you want more out of your games.

2,09 Euro for Sega Ages Phantasy Star, Virtua Racing, Fantasy Zone and many others. You really, REALLY should invest that money. These are the best version of some all-time classics. Get these! Get Herzog Zwei! Get Out Run! It's a steal!

It’s Phantasy Star III and… Phantasy Star III. Hooked straight from the beginning.

Yes.

A few days ago I went through my stuff in the attic - I didn´t just find a bunch of awesome manuals, but also some beautiful PC big boxes. Man, I miss the days when PC-games came in this. Well that and the time, when every console and the PC all had their own real identity...
