🌍💚 Peatland Restoration Begins! Funded by Scottish Power, this project tackles climate change & boosts biodiversity. Thanks to Crichton Carbon Centre for their work. Contractors DC Restoration Contracts will be doing the groundwork on over 190 hectares of degraded peatland from next week!

An epic migration 🐟💦 Great to hear Atlantic Salmon are returning to spawn in the River Tarras & River Esk! These incredible fish travel 1000+ miles to lay their eggs where life began. Most die after spawning, nourishing the river for the next generation. Learn more: bit.ly/3salmon

We've been busy behind the scenes ensuring our Middlemoss Head peatland restoration project can kick off in 2025! 🌱 Despite setbacks with Peatland Action funding, we now have a funder onboard to restore 193ha & block 56km of drains. More updates soon—watch this space! 👀

It’s been a week of frosty sub-zero temperatures in Langholm and the most incredible firey sunsets over the Tarras Valley, with clear views stretching to the Solway Firth and Lake District.

Celebrating 100 years of Community Land Scotland, we imagine the future of Tarras Valley Nature Reserve. Thriving forests, abundant wildlife, and a legacy of community stewardship. What do you hope to see in 100 years?

2024 was a landmark year for restoration: - Our biggest restoration project yet Lower Tarras, creating wetlands and new access routes. - Sitka spruce clearance on Whita Hill. - Tarras Valley was featured on BBC Countryfile and PBS America. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Highlights 2024 🎨 The Tarras Valley Tapestry, created by Creation Mill, joined the traveling gallery celebrating 100 years of Scottish community land 🏡 Progress at Cronksbank Cottage, one step closer to being a local home. 🐴 Langholm’s Common Riding festivities at Tarras ValleyNature Reserve.

Highlights 2024: 350 local children enjoyed our outdoor classroom sessions, learning and exploring in nature’s playground! 🌳📚 A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers, who make our work possible, your dedication transforms Tarras Valley into a thriving haven. 💪✨

🦅 2024 was amazing for Tarras Valley’s wildlife! ✨ 8 hen harrier chicks fledged, including Ceilidh, Red & Gilda, who are now exploring the UK. 🦉 Plus, 3 barn owl chicks successfully fledged at Cronksbank! Here’s to protecting Scotland’s spectacular wildlife. 💚

Highlights 2024: Cooms Farm won at the Holm Show—congrats to shepherd William Nixon! Dark skies event with astrophysicist Hayden Goodfellow. A lively ceilidh at Langholm Social Club brought us together for the Community Land Festival. Woodland yoga with Catriona Orr was pure tranquility in Longwood.

Restoration is underway at Lower Tarras! 🌿 Local firm Simon Richardson is creating wetland ponds and access tracks after recent felling. 🚧 Please stick to existing tracks for safety. Groundworks will take a few weeks—we’ll keep you updated!

You may have spotted devices along the River Tarras recently! These are water temperature loggers installed by the Galloway Fisheries Trust, part of a network monitoring river health. This data will inform restoration efforts and climate adaptation, aiding species like Atlantic Salmon and Trout.
