During the first Trump era I binge-watched the TV show "Madam Secretary" and it acted like a political touchstone of sanity. Re-binging it now during Trump 2.0 is absolutely WILD.

My cartoon for this week's @newscientist.com

I remember thinking this was a great idea a few years ago. Pre-approval catalogs and then single stair legalization FTW

"2 Dead after speeding driver crashes car into redwood tree in Granite Bay, CHP says" Words matter. How we report things matters. The exact same info is given above as is contained in the screencapped headline of the @sacbee.com article but the two have fundamentally different blame/fault vectors.

Enough people turned out to say #handsoff to the Trump regime in Sacramento that mobile data service got overwhelmed. I felt like I was back in 1998 waiting 3 minutes for a single jpeg to load, lol.

Absolutely huge turnout at the #california state capitol in #sacramento. #handsoff

This is extremely cool

our zoning code is an explicit tool of economic segregation intended to make housing scarcer and more expensive

A real car enthusiast goes out and just enjoys their car. They don't drive it to someone else's neighborhood and spend the afternoon making as much noise as possible so everyone hate-glares at them. The rare times I take my MX-5 out, I'd much rather disappear up a canyon than slow roll a supermarket

I was out jogging today and saw a group of kids on bikes get pulled over by Sacramento PD so I decided to stick around and keep an eye on things. Ended up taking 4-6 cops 20+minutes to write these kids tickets and when I asked afterward if I could see the citations they were for HELMET VIOLATIONS

Bike infrastructure, good or bad, can be made exponentially worse or unusable if you don't hold property owners and contractors accountable for things like this.
