Imagine if @aoc @sanders.senate.gov , every dem, SIMULTANEOUSLY held Town Halls where they allowed grant and contract recipients to explain to the country what it is they do and why it's important Invite all media. Including RW podcasters. @spaces Flood the zone Call it a Day Of Transparency

Gather round kids and let me tell you a story about a real technology ban...

In all seriousness. Why the fuck is the US behind almost the entire western world in transportation, healthcare and public education? We spend more per capita on all of these things. Its almost as if a giant evil construct is taking the money withy giving the results,

Here's a radical thought: Why don't we all create a group-ride-share that will take 30-500 people between where they live, shop and work. We could add spoke and wheel system of smaller ride sof 10-30 people. all rides less than $2 each, or $30/month. we could call it public transportation

One of my dissertation chapters had a tentative working title of “did the internet create annoying people, or just make it easier for existing annoying people to find and annoy me?” The answer is yes.

Publicize and shame

Today is the only day that matters Yesterday is gone, tomorrow may never be Make today count

It’s kind of fucked up how you can teach yourself to read a new language in the privacy and comfort of your own home but to speak it you’ve got to commit to spending several hundred hours embarrassing yourself in public.

Nice to spend some time here instead of Shitter, to rest my finger after muting hundreds of 'patriots' who, ironically, can barely write in English.

For SoCal friends, Here is a list of resources for shelter, animal boarding, free items, and distribution hubs. These places can also use donations (e.g., food, water, masks, and blankets). Please consider donating if you can. For more info, visit Instagram: mutualaidla

A reminder that Los Angeles had its hottest summer in history last year. Southern California has received just 2% of "normal" rainfall during the current "rainy" season. These fires are a direct result of a warming & drying atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels. We are in a climate emergency.

So much loss. I believe that this will be the final nail that forces home insurance to be fundamentally rethought. Dunno how, as the CEO's will try to make it about profits and increasing them, but we need to protect people.

If you’re telling people things are so bad that there’s no time to talk about their hobbies and interests and little joys, it turns out you DO have time for a hobby: being an insufferable douche.

Teenagers think other teenagers they're into are ghosting them till they grow up and have to coordinate with a general contractor and learn what a true ghosting feels like

devs should implement this feature for this website

so, in line with this .. Who else has this moment Your dog wakes themself up with a hugely loud fart, and then stares at you accusingly .. Then sniffs and walks away from you .. as if you are the one who dealt it?

I used to think that when global warming truly began to bite, deniers would face reality & we could act. Now I think it's more likely it will lead to a kind of fascism that will respond to global warming by, like, executing everyone who says global warming is real.

We wanted to understand the economic rationale for buying Greenland. So we talked to three unvaccinated UFC fans at a Jersey Mike's in Toms River.

Hey- how many of my fellow #portugal folks are here. I need to find some good feeds and fellow folks who are intereste3d in Portugal and Portuguese. Fala Portuguese? Esta bem.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

For folks evacuating horses and other animals in Altadena and the Palisades:

Los Angeles, you can download an app called Watch Duty to keep abreast of the fire situation. It'll keep you updated and send you alerts. Stay safe out there. It's apocalyptic.

@texastechuniv.bsky.social You guys have some folks doing research here. Any faculty care to comment?

So, water is needed to live. Climate change is responsible for a fundamental shift in weather patterns and the associated water delivery mechanisms we all depend on to live. What do the models show as livable/arable areas in 50 years, 100 years, 500 years. My ADHD brain wonders ...

The insanity of being a fire ecologist in the epicenter of a major fire event, bags packed and ready to evacuate, watching active fire from my window, while taking media requests and explaining to the public, for the 100,000th time how climate change is largely responsible for this

To all my SoCal friends, neighbors and associates. PLEASE stay safe. I am concerned about you, and your safety. Things don't matter, people and relationships do.

For those evacuating with pets in LA: Hilton’s Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton, Tru and Canopy brands are all 100% pet friendly. Even cats! And a lot of hotels are waiving pet fees atm. Good on u Hilton! Pun intended: that’s hot.

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change. Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk: www.noaa.gov/noaa-wildfir...
