Like firing upon American citizens at a protest, for example, as he already wanted to do in 2020.

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

I kinda like this and think it sorta works. Can we make it stick?

Here's a letter dated September 15, 1933, to Viktor Stern, an employee of the Berlin Transit Authority, dismissing him on the grounds that he was Jewish and therefore ineligible under the Nazi "Civil Service Law" for a job in public service. #Coup #Trump encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/d...

When people see the maple leaf, they see possibility. They see freedom. They see a helping hand. They see Canada, and the best of our values. Happy 60th to our flag. 🇨🇦

I’m in Munich and people keep asking me to decode Vance’s speech. OK: In Vance English “free speech” means “Let Musk run your elections” and “democracy” means “let Russia run your elections.” Now move on. 2025 is about what Europeans do, not what Americans say.

The memes are still coming many days later.

Here's a list of DOGE staff, assembled and annotated by my colleagues at BI. Whatever you do, please don't share it. www.businessinsider.com/doge-staff-l...

A quick resistance task: 1. Google Gulf of Mexico 2. “Gulf of America" is the top 3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it 4. Select "Send Feedback" 5. Click on "Gulf Of America" 6. Select "Inaccurate content" 7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is “Gulf of Mexico"

Costco, which has come out saying it supports DEI, will make no changes to its existing programs, AND pays workers a minimum of $30/hour, is up 15% YTD. Target, which announced it is ending all DEI programs and has a minimum wage of $15-$24/hour, is down over 4%. Keep voting with your wallet.

"Vance had a chance to defend his OWN family, and he opted to defend the Indian-hating bigot instead. Where are the balls on these Republican men? ... Elon wants his DOGE kid who hates Indians back and Vance does his bidding... Do they castrate these guys at the door of the RNC?"

Instead of terraforming Mars, maybe we should stop Marsiforming Earth.

The AHA & the @oah.org have released a joint statement on the presidential executive order “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K–12 Schooling.” “We reject the premise that it is ‘anti-American’ or ‘subversive’ to learn the full history of the United States.” 🗃️

The point about Trump’s deranged comments about Gaza is that we’re wasting precious seconds talking about Trump’s deranged comments about Gaza and not unelected Elon Musk’s coup to dismantle our government.

The Supreme Court hasn’t helped. But we are here because of the narcissism, nihilism, and moral apathy of too large a segment of the American population and its elected representatives.

Absolutely. The degree to which congressional Dems should break the norms they've respected in the past ought to be proportional to the threat posed by what the administration is now doing, and that threat is unlike anything we've ever seen.

A couple of (actually serious) thought-experiment questions on where we are and where we’re going: If a bunch of sociopaths are destroying the federal government from within, why should we pay federal taxes? And if they succeed, who’s going to make us pay those taxes?

In terms of how empires fall stories turning the whole thing over to a ketamine addled tech baron and a band of incel teens is probably one of the most pathetic options

Stop privately discussing it and fucking do it. www.axios.com/2025/02/04/s...

I would really love to see the NYT & WaPo treat the current political situation with even half the level of alarm they used last year in reporting that Biden was old

@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social This seems like a good idea to me. @democrats.org look quite passive. Please rise to the occasion.

Well the award for most cowardly, boot-lickingest academic society has squarely gone to the American Society of Microbiology, who has taken down features of various non-white scientists. Absolutely pathetic behavior. Those articles are now coming up as “under review”. Truly sickening cowardice here.

Article from 2022. Amazingly prescient. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022...

The question isn’t whether Budde was right to speak up. The question is whether the rest of us will have the courage to join her.

"What would Mitch McConnell do?" is the only question Democrats in Congress should be asking themselves right now. And then they should do it.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

1/ OK, Democratic members of Congress in the US Senate. It’s time for some tough love. I am aware your pollsters and consultants tell you things like “the American people want us to work together” and “ focus on prescription drug prices in the economy.”
