Tuberculosis: a threat to health security in the European region and the collective actions needed - The Lancet www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

“We know how to live in a world without tuberculosis, and that means, ultimately, that we’re choosing to live in a world with tuberculosis,” @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social said. “But all of y’all are making a different choice. And that is my great encouragement.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

📈 #TB in England and #Poverty: “the canary in the coal mine for other health issues related to social deprivation – everything from other infectious diseases to chronic conditions like diabetes.”

Devastating that this should be necessary - an important tool to bear witness to lives lost.

TB is concentrated among already marginalised populations, compounding the challenges they face: #TransDayOfVisibility #TDOV www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

#TB cases are rising. Are you familiar with the signs and symptoms? A persistent cough, fever, night sweats, and weight loss could be TB. Early diagnosis is key. Learn more at www.thetruthabouttb.org #ThinkTB #Tuberculosis

#Tuberculosis #TB can affect anyone, but some are at higher risk. This includes healthcare workers. Ensure you're up to date with TB screening and consider the BCG vaccine. #TBprevention #HealthcareWorkersTB

Calling all doctors - #ThinkTB! Symptoms can mimic other respiratory illnesses. If a patient presents with a cough lasting over 3 weeks, consider TB. Prompt testing and treatment are essential. #TBdiagnosis #PublicHealth #PatientCare

Short treatment regimens for LTBI would be very welcome to make it easier on individuals at risk of reactivation of latent TB. We are also excited for new technologies to identify those most at risk from reactivation - hopefully reducing the need for LTBI treatment entirely.

Every breath matters, every life counts! 🫁✨ Tuberculosis is preventable, treatable, and curable—yet millions continue to suffer. It’s time to invest in awareness, education, and action. Together, we can break the cycle and build a TB-free future!

#TB cases jumped 13% in England from 2023 to 2024. Think TB! A cough that lasts more than 3 weeksmay not be a lingering cold. It could be tuberculosis. Other symptoms include fever, night sweats, weight loss, and tiredness. Learn more at www.thetruthabouttb.org #ThinkTB #Tuberculosis

Great to see the UK Government taking future infectious disease threats, including antimicrobial resistance, seriously. Let's not overlook though that TB is currently the biggest infectious disease threat globally with drug-resistance already a growing threat; www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This #WorldTBDay, we’re uniting experts to tackle tuberculosis (TB) through the new @qmul.ac.uk & Barts Health TB Centre. East London has the highest TB cases in Western Europe & Barts Health treats 5–6% of all cases in the UK. Learn more and watch the full video on: bit.ly/41ZWrir

Patient and public involvement will be at the heart of the new Queen Mary & Barts Health Tuberculosis Centre, to help shape services and research. The centre, funded by @bartscharity.bsky.social, is a collaboration between @qmul.ac.uk and @tb-alert.bsky.social youtu.be/m3C0Kwh8OCc?...

Our animated World TB Day 2025 infographic highlights rising rates of TB in England, who is most affected and how to recognise the symptoms. Taking just one minute of your day to take a look might help save lives! #WorldTBDay #ThinkTB

Tuberculosis (TB) can affect anyone, but some are at higher risk. This includes people born outside the UK. Let's work together to #EndTB. Find information in multiple languages at www.thetruthabouttb.org #TBawareness #HealthEquity

With just six years left to end TB, now is the time to 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭, 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫! We need bold commitments backed by action, increased investments in TB programs, and the delivery of quality care for all. Together, we can turn promises into progress and make history by ending TB. #younite4tb

The #WorldTBDay in #Barcelona: 👉There was an event about complicated cases, doctoral thesis, SIILTIBCY skin test and gamification and TB. 👉The 80% decline of the #EndTB will probably not be reached by 2030 unless surveillance and control are improved, and TB Programmes… daily27.info/2025/03/24/w...

Details of grim early impact of #USAID termination of funding for #malaria, #TB, #HIV, #vaccinations & #humanitarian aid, while @who.int mulls 'terrible choices' as it looks to cut 25% of budget ⬇️ healthpolicy-watch.news/grim-global-...

A great collaboration between QMUL, TB Alert and the TB Action group with funding from Barts Charity to address rising TB rates in the UK and particularly East London youtu.be/m3C0Kwh8OCc?...

Abrupt cessation of US aid funding has plunged programs to fight #malaria, #TB, & #HIV into a crisis, #WHO said Monday. Director-General Tedros said while the US has the right to decide how to spend its money, if it is to withdraw it should do so in a planned way. www.statnews.com/2025/03/17/w...

A great initiative. Also recommend Spitting Blood: The History of Tuberculosis Book by Helen Bynum

Early reports to WHO from the 30 highest #tuberculosis (TB)-burden countries confirm that funding cuts from foreign aid, particularly from USAID, are already dismantling essential TB services. Without urgent action, these setbacks will reverse decades of progress to #EndTB 🔗 bit.ly/4kvsu2i

“By retracting foreign aid, President Trump could make tuberculosis untreatable again” @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

Tuberculosis, the deadliest infectious disease on the planet, kills more than 1.25M people a year. New infections are expected to surge by 30% as a result of closing USAID, a memo says. The increase will inevitably lead to cases in the U.S.

An important article examining the interplay of global and national factors that threaten England's low TB incidence status.

In Kenya parents who took their sick children to get tested for TB the day before Trump was inaugurated are still waiting to hear if their children are infected. People with drug-resistant TB are not being treated. A global health risk, delivered by the aid freeze www.nytimes.com/2025/03/11/h...

"Early reports to WHO from the 30 highest TB-burden countries confirm that funding withdrawals are already dismantling essential services, threatening the global fight against TB." www.who.int/news/item/05...

An important statement in difficult times, including comment from TB Alert's Executive Trustee.

Heartbreaking but necessary

Shout out to #TBSky and #IDSky and all health journalists to follow @tbcommunityhub.bsky.social l who will be posting in the near future about the heinous impact of UD fund cuts on TB community globally. #FundingCutsCostLives

US terminates funding for polio, HIV, malaria, TB and nutrition programs around the world: people will die and UN agencies and NGOs like UNAIDS, Helen Keller International, PATH and others will be crippled. More from @snolen.bsky.social here: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/27/h... via @nytimes.com

Stop work orders on TB projects = halted clinical trials, interrupted treatment, and lost lives. This is unethical & deadly! The world cannot afford to turn its back on TB. Read and amplify our statement here: docs.google.com/document/d/1... #RestoreTBFunding #EndTB

StopTB has a new report estimating the impact of the foreign aid freeze. It's useful to understand the huge impact that global health efforts have everyday, and worrying. Some highlights... 🧵

A bright light in a dark moment: The price of the critical TB drug bedaquiline has now dropped to $90 per adult treatment course for TB, a 54% reduction since just 2023. This is a huge win for @tbfighters.org and the TB activism community generally. www.stoptb.org/what-we-do/f... (1/2)...

My new book, Everything Is Tuberculosis, explores the history of our deadliest infectious disease. It's also about our horrifying present: TB still kills kills over a million people per year, even though it's been curable since the 1950s. Signed copies can be ordered at everythingistb.com
