Does anyone else keep a Reader's Notebook? I copy into mine fluent, lyrical, or imaginative lines worth noting (credited, of course). It slows down the reading to tab the lines, but provides model lines & phrases to look back on.

Visiting our son and his family in California with a view from the bedroom looking out over undulating hills that spill off into the distance. In the night I awake to what seems a dusting of snow but is merely a sheen of moonglow. Serene.

Homage to my multicultural family: my Irish wife, American self and sons, Japanese-American and Canadian-American grandchildren.

How I used to explain the difference between prose and poetry to my classes: There once was a lady from Ballinaglass who went into the water up to her knees. That's prose. Had she gone in any farther it would have been poetry. 😌
