Hope everyone in the UK remembers what Elon Musk is doing to the US government the next time Domminic Cummings writes a 30,000 word blog post on his plan to replace all the "NPCs" in Whitehall with 19 year old Nazi superforecasters.

Putin says Trump must go further before he’ll even agree to meet. Putin is entirely in the driving seat. The US has alienated its own allies, given Russia nearly all of what it wanted, bought Putin’s warped view of reality, and can’t even guarantee a meeting. The art of the deal, indeed.

As predicted, after Streeting gave in to the bigots and said puberty blockers would only be available to trans kids as part of a trial, they want to eliminate the trials.

Definitely feeling the love today 🥰 as we reflect on a fantastic day yesterday with our mentors, regional reps and trainers. Insightful discussions and presentations considering what we mean by high quality physics education, as we evolve our strategic plans #WTO #MakingPhysicsMatter

Vaccines are good. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Gender affirming care is good. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. "But big pharma!" misses the forest for the trees. The problem with big pharma isn't the medicines. Medicines and vaccines are good! It's the price they charge for them.

Not bad for the end of a week with minor lurgy. #running

For many Autistics, interoceptive cues like hunger or thirst can easily get missed, and when focused on an interest or passion these cues can be ignored for hours and you might suddenly come out of a flow state and be starving & really busting for the toilet! autistic-revolution.com/blog/f/how-o...

Oh, the joy of a thermostat giving up and finding out it's such an old model (in a house built <6yrs ago) that no compatible products are available for the base plate.

Have seen a few different websites that are running Live Lessons and Assemblies for British Science Week next month. I've collated them all into this blogpost www.sciencefix.co.uk/2025/02/live... #eduskyprimary #edusky

When you write using a machine learning software tool, you should be writing with 0.00000001% of the confidence that you normally do. You are probably embedding carefully-worded and convincing lies and deceptions into work that you're going to publish under your name. Be afraid, and skeptical.

Some days in teaching are pearls. Other days you're just dealing with irritants.

I am peopled out. Lots of meetings and management supervision time, plus phone calls to school receptions chasing invoices. Tired now.

For men: read this advice, accept the necessity, and EVEN IF YOU DON'T THINK IT APPLIES TO YOU, recognize you're not entitled to argue.

Kemi Badenoch's spokesman repeatedly refuses to condemn Donald Trump's Gaza plan, or repeat the Conservative party's previous support for a two state solution. Pushed to say whether Palestinians should have a right to return to their homes, he refused to do so bylinetimes.com/2025/02/05/k...

I mean, we could try putting another weasel in the Large Hadron Collider just to see if that resets the timeline

Woooooooo ⬇️⬇️⬇️ Someone’s done it - archived the entire datasets of the US CDC before the orange toddler could destroy them. #episky #medsky #academicsky

I'm slowly working through the 78 (!) tabs open on my phone. It's like decluttering but nobody will ever be able to tell, probably including me. But I'm going to post the interesting science/teaching bits in an ongoing thread here.

I’m tired of hearing about bats. Do you want to hear a story about jumping spiders and the town that disappeared? I think I might be breaking this story – do come be the first to read it.

Please just stop. The internet has meant more people previously ignored for diagnosis, due to lack of recognition for even basic traits, have been able to find a community and recognise those traits. That's a good thing. It isn't "over-diagnosis". It's catching up after decades of "under-diagnosis".

A really great post. It’s essential that we carefully monitor the impact of the support we have in place to ensure it’s useful.

I wonder which of Trump, Musk and Vance gave the orders for this modern-day book burning? Vandalism that will kill people and have an impact long after the USA is hopefully on a better path.

OpenAI says it has proof that Deepseek used its work without permission to create something meant to undermine and destroy its product. On behalf of all the authors whose novels and stories were taken as training data, oh no that must be so hard for you.

OpenAI right now

It's not a recent article, but this piece about how many of today's (American) plants are adapted to the presence of megafauna that no longer exist is fascinating. www.americanforests.org/article/the-...

Can't find it easily but I'm sure I remember @teachertapp.bsky.social asking about how many colleagues would recommend teaching as a career to friends and family...
