50c fares won't meaningfully shift people away from driving. I drive to uni. $10 parking vs $5 train fare. Driving is twice as fast as the train. Even if fares were free, I'd pay 10 dollars to save an hour per day. If the train was competitive with driving, I'd even pay a higher fare.
