This is my specific worry about the current trajectory. "Why learn any of the cool human talents when a computer can just do that for you?" is a completely rational statement when the importance of the humanities have been overshadowed by the need for credentials and status.

"I merely tolerate computers" wasn't just a throwaway line, it's a true fact about myself. That said, as I embark on my DVD-backup-to-.iso files mission, the folks suggesting that USB optical drives should be USB-3.0 are very amusing! Might speed up a Blu-ray rip but will do jack shit for DVDs

Cutting research at the National Science Foundation by more than half(!) is intentionally sabotaging the future. These are contracts the federal government competitively awards to universities to develop breakthroughs and train graduate students to become future leaders & experts. Future is at risk.
