This is a useful guide to all of the hyperscale investments in subsea cables. Pretty wild to understand the scale of it.

Apple will build an advanced manufacturing facility in Houston to produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the company said today. The factory is part of $500 billion in fresh investment in the U.S., creating 20,000 new high-tech jobs. www.apple.com/newsroom/202...

"What does AI power demand mean for the power sector, and how do we make it clean, reliable and cheap - that's the story of the decade." Interesting look at efforts to develop hydrogen, nuclear and geothermal power solutions for data centers. And a cool look inside ECL's hydrogen-powered site.

QuadReal Property Group and T5 Data Centers have expanded their data center development platform with an additional $8 billion investment. The companies have previously partnered to create data centers in Silicon Valley, Hillsboro, Chicago, Atlanta and Charlotte. t5datacenters.com/resources/qu...

PointOne has an experienced team and has quietly developed plans to build up to 950 megawatts of data center capacity across multiple sites in Virginia. This week it announced additional funding to support its buildout. www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/poin...

Another contender for "world's largest data center."

Colovore was one of the first data center providers to go all-in on high density cooling. Their moment has arrived.

The appearance of data centers has been a huge issue in Virginia, coming soon to other markets.

Many state PUCs have been told data centers are 100% inflexible - but some of the hyperscalers are saying otherwise. Reporting by E&E-Politico: www.eenews.net/articles/stu...

Vantage Data Centers will deploy more than 1 gigawatt of power capacity at its North American campuses using natural gas microgrids. from VoltaGrid. The companies said the VoltaGrid modular generation solution allows deployments "within months." www.businesswire.com/news/home/20...

1/ 🚨New study alert!🚨 🔌💡 My DukeU colleagues and I just released a 1st-of-kind study on how the US grid could integrate up to 100 gigawatts of data centers w/out major new infrastructure, provided modest load flexibility (0.5%/yr). AI load growth can be managed faster, cheaper, & cleaner. 🧵👇

The maneuvering you are seeing now, both in Paris & among big AI players, is a sign that insiders increasingly believe the growth of AI capabilities will continue in the future towards AGI-ish systems without hitting a wall. Many other normal considerations are taking a back seat to this belief.

I spoke with Elisa Wood of Energy Changemakers about how data center operators think about energy procurement and what DeepSeek actually tells us about energy demand forecasts. Good conversation for folks interested in AL and energy. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/h...

We've been tracking this through tech earnings season, but the NYT rounds up how the hyperscalers are shrugging off the DeepSeek selloff and continuing to invest heavily in AI infrastructure. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/08/t...

Time for me to learn how to speak French I guess! Great to see serious investment infrastructure outside of the US, especially in the past few months. I do wonder how many disenfranchised Americans will wind up overseas as sovereign #AI picks up.

With AWS reporting, here's the final hyperscale scorecard for 2025 CapEx: - Amazon - $100 billion, up from $83B in 2024 - Microsoft - $80B, up from $55B - Google - $75B, up from $52.5B - Meta - $65B, up from $39B It adds up to high confidence in the future of AI from the hyperscale sector.

Amazon will boost its AI investment to new heights in 2025, outspending its hyperscale rivals with more than $100 billion in capital expenditures. AWS joins other tech titans saying innovations by China’s DeepSeek should increase overall customer spending on generative AI, rather than reduce it.
