JENA, La. (AP) — Amid rural Louisiana’s crawfish farms, towering pine trees and cafes serving po’boys, nearly 7,000 people are waiting at immigration detention centers to learn whether they will be expelled from the United States.

The Supreme Court kept President Donald Trump’s restrictions on birthright citizenship on hold but agreed to hear arguments on the issue in May.

Ah ha!! The committee suspects that DeepSeek averted U.S. restrictions on sales of some chips to China…Chinese companies may be purchasing critical chips for developing A.I. from other countries, citing an article that Singapore had charged 3 men with fraud for selling Nvidia chips to DeepSeek.

Why we must care! “Appellate judges in the case warned that the administration’s position represented a “path of perfect lawlessness” and would mean “the government could send any of us to a Salvadoran prison without due process.” www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/o...

Team AOC: Today in Bakersfield, California, we filled a 4,000 seat theater, and spoke with another 1,500 people outside. And why? Beyond elections, our task is to build community. Community is the most powerful building block we have to defeat authoritarianism and root out corruption.

Trump's model for usa

He’s going to be fired because he outed the fact that Musk arranged with Hegseth to get a top secret briefing at the Pentagon. Trump and his Chief of Staff didn’t even know about it. As usual, in Trump World, the person who does the right thing is the one who is punished.

It's a year away, but I'll take good news where I can get it: I'll be chairing a roundtable panel at the 2026 OAH on "Race, Fear, and Politics in American History" with an absolute all-star lineup of @kathleenbelew.bsky.social @gauthamrao.bsky.social @kcarterjackson.bsky.social & Jeff Cowie.

Biden: Why are these guys taking aim at social security now? They are following that old line from tech startups. The quote is move fast, break things. Well, they are certainly breaking things… They want to wreck it so they can rob it

They spent the last four years telling us people who invaded the capital and beat police officers with flagpoles were unjustly persecuted civil rights heroes and now it’s taken about 45 minutes for them to be like “yeah if you write an op-ed you’re going to the blacksite that’s just common sense”

“Sickening and heartbreaking” Someone who was at the Marge Greene town hall where folks who dissented were arrested/targeted/tased by police — who has voted for both parties — writes about what she saw 👇🏽

EU is right to stick with de-risking, not decoupling frm China. Trump cd easily switch to a deal with China leaving Europe high and dry. It is possible Trump will quietly back off tariffs once he has pretended to ordinary Americans that he is bringing home jobs www.irishtimes.com/politics/202...

Got a new one today when the press secretary accused him of being a "human trafficker" just absolutely out of thin air!

Thank you Senator!

Jonathan Swan, of the NYT, asks Ms Leavitt (all paraphrased) "The President said that it was a terrible abuse of power for the prior Admin to prosecute him. How is it not then an abuse of power when he directed his own DOJ to investigate two people he doesn't like?" Leavitt: "That's his policy."

Remember, this entirely real Russian-backed authoritarian takeover will occur faster and be much worse simply because of the extent to which Americans' believe it "CAN'T happen in America".

Short hearing, and Xinis was all business. She dismissed. The DOJ objections is already dealt with and said it’s time to move to discovery, which will be very very rapid. DOJ proffered the oval office meeting yesterday; she wants evidence gathered under the evidence rules.

Hats off to @mark-carney.bluesky.social for RUNNING our country like a boss, all while campaigning AND improving his French. Debates be damned. If “some”Canadians can’t figure out that we already have a brilliant mind at the helm, that’s on them. 🇨🇦 - lets solidify this. #NeverVoteConservative

Judge Xinis to DOJ lawyer: “Cancel vacation. Cancel other appointments. I’m usually pretty good about this in my courtroom, but not this time.” She also agreed to allow the plaintiffs to depose up to 6 administration officials. Good first step, but need accountability.

Let’s be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

@edwardluce.bsky.social is 100 percent correct. Will @scotus-blog.bsky.social stand up for the rule of law or yield to fascism? "The president’s middle finger to the court was echoed by his attorney-general, secretary of state, vice-president and El Salvador’s vigilante president Nayib Bukele.

@nytimes.com Another $23 billion cost to taxpayers due to Trump incompetence #AmateurTime " Trump has not announced an aid package for farmers who will be hurt by his policies, but in his first term he directed $23 bn to farmers after China imposed retaliatory duties on soybean, corn, wheat

Hopefully Harvard wilk cover this $2 billion from its endowment www.nytimes.com/2025/04/14/u...

I hate fraud so much. I was lucky to be raised by a deeply ethical dad who worked in the real estate industry in Florida and so was constantly bringing home stories of the worst kinds of guys getting rich in ways that they felt were "illegal but fine" but were actually the worst kinds of theft.
