What to do when you have five hours to spend in London Town with two of your favourite humans? Easy. Introduce them to the delights of one of your favourite graveyards! πŸͺ¦ BUNYAN - John (1628-1688) Bunhill Fields Cemetery. London. UK. Still Sleuthing πŸ”

'To see a World in a Grain of Sand. And a Heaven in a Wild Flower' ~ William Blake (1757-1827) Before my summoning to a seminar to learn how @yorkfhs.bsky.social can survive the 21st century - I managed to grab a moment with a literary favourite at Bunhill Fields Cemetery. #StillSleuthing πŸ”

'Tis a truth universally known that the month of January is the least favourite month of the year - and never more so in January 1874 for one lowly curate in a former West Riding Parish. Before the morning had ended on this day Monday January 2 in the year 1815 - the poet Lord Byron had been joined in matrimony to one Anne Isabella Milbanke at her family home in Seaham County Durham. * SPOILER ALERT * Alas, they were NOT to live happily ever after! πŸ“Έ at @fashion_museum_bath

Welcome to MY world! If I'm not buried within an archive somewhere, pottering among the tombstones with camera in hand or storytelling in an unquiet street in York or beyond for @politetourist.bsky.social - I will be getting messy with wood, glue and clay inside my cluttered den. Partial to cake.

I sometimes am shocked to hear that not everyone knows about the GRO’s own birth and death indexes and cheaper digital certificate copies for England and Wales. Here’s some more detail. Don’t pay more than you need to! www.professionalfamilyhistory.co.uk/blog/gro-bmd...

Fabulous talk! Loved hearing of some of the lost folk Peter introduced to us. Thank you @clemhallhistory.bsky.social for looking after us so well. The night cap with my fellow sleuth from @yorkfhs.bsky.social afterward made for a perfect evening.

Over tea in the cafe at York Explore one balmy September afternoon- I chatted with Editor Mick of The Yorkshire Dalesman about my life, my passion for sleuthing and ancestral healing, my company @politetourist.bsky.social and the need to protect our precious local archives. #StillSleuthing πŸ”

We're starting our week with some Terry's of York company records, including this programme for the Terry's Cricket Club Annual Dinner held in November 1927 at the company's St Helen's Square restaurant. No Chocolate Oranges for dessert sadly but plum pudding with rum sauce sounds delicious!

A favourite of my grandfather, I can remember reading The Yorkshire Dalesman as a child. And, in the NOVEMBER issue, not only can you read about Stan Laurel's family history, the start of the Women's Land Army and the cover pin-up but you can also discover more about ME! #DeadSleuth #AmReading

The Lady Brigante loves nothing more than shocking unsuspecting folk with the tale that she was abandoned at birth by gypsies and raised with kindly mice in the crypt of an old church. Alas! The truth is altogether more unremarkable... #LadyBrigante #SoQuietus #DeadSleuth #StillSleuthing πŸ¦β€β¬›

A TRUE CRIME WALK LIKE NO OTHER. The Polite Tourist offers true crime walks through Victorian history. Through York, and beyond. As dusk falls and as @politetourist.bsky.social peels back the long, lurking shadows - tales of the cruel streets of a forgotten Victorian world beckon to the curious.

Surrounded by wild grasses - a worn ledger stone dressed with an indistinguishable coat of arms hides from view. With curiosity piqued - the resting place of one Edwin Gray (1848-1929), solicitor, and twice Lord Mayor of York now hides no more. πŸͺ¦ York Cemetery. York. UK. Still Sleuthing πŸ”

Trawling through the parish registers from the City of York for sight of an elusive betrothal at @yorkfhs.bsky.social is not proving easy this afternoon. Thank goodness help is at hand in the form of something delicious to comfort me during my sleuthing hour of need. Still Sleuthing πŸ”

A welcome return to desk and kettle duty on behalf of @yorkfhs.bsky.social today. I'll be lost among the dead of York as I search the long forgotten buried in ink within our fabulous collection of parish registers. Pop along if you want to sleuth too? I vanish at 4pm.
