I just finished binging 爱的二八定律 [English title: She and Her Perfect Husband] with Yang Mi and Xu Kai. It is delightful and a surprisingly subversive satire of the old Confucian values within the business world. I really love Yang Mi. She has a high nasal voice and it really grows on you.

A friend of mine was a student at this place. They have a campus in Annapolis as well as one in Santa Fe. I was right across the street at the USNA and occasionally met 'Johnnies' around town, attended their evening lectures, went to their parties. The most amazing students I've ever met.

I'm very much enjoying 'The Witch.' I don't mean the hyper-violent movie -- though I loved both of them, maybe because I can get hyper-violent on occasion, too. The Witch is a TV series about a girl who is cast out of her rural town because her neighbors are convinced she brings bad luck.

Who doesn't think Pacific Rim is one of the greatest movies of all time? I mean, they spend more than half the movie simply punching kaiju, and then it occurs to them they have a sword. And then there's the immortal line, "Elbow rocket!"

Another show I watched recently, 不討好的勇氣 [the English title is Later I Laughed], about a mid-level corporate type who throws it all away to do stand up comedy in Shanghai. The star, Li Geng Xi, is wonderful.

Started watching 星汉灿烂·月升沧海 last night. The English title is Love Like The Galaxy for some reason. It's a brilliant costume drama set in time unspecified 'classical' past. Zhao Lusi is marvelous, a subtle comedienne with a knack for conveying a nuanced pathos in the role of the abandoned child.

Shrimp tempura udon at a restaurant in the Tokyo Central Station. It's a surprising feature of Japan that some of the best restaurants are found in the trains stations. I suppose it is a way of underlining a principle: 物の哀れ
