"She's in Love" is by a long shot Mark Wills's best single... ...and I have absolutely no memory of having ever heard it on the radio.

Juice Newton: "Love's been a little bit hard on me." My inner 12-year-old: "Heh heh heh, you said 'hard-on'."

Oh Steve....

Songs I liked until I realized they were inferior covers of a much better original: Trick Pony, It's a Heartache Robin Lee, Black Velvet Eli Young Band, Even If It Breaks Your Heart The respective originals by Bonnie Tyler, Alannah Myles, and Will Hoge are SO much better.

I don't know what surprises me more: that three Old Dominion songs had to be censored for radio, or that all three of them were consecutive.

Why the hell do I have zero memory of Lee Ann Womack's "You've Got to Talk to Me"?

I'm surprised at how many people seemed to hate "Mrs. Steven Rudy" by Mark McGuinn. I thought it was fantastic.

I think it's bizarre that Restless Heart had a #1 hit on the AC charts with a Canadian saxophonist who had no other hits. And seemingly NOBODY talked about this song when it was out, as I can't find a single review. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJpN...

This was written by Deena Kaye Rose, a then-closeted trans woman, attempting to come to terms with her gender identity decades before she came out in her 70s. It was always my favorite John Denver song by a long shot, and knowing the backstory, I love it even more www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Aou...

Now that I finally found Maggie Rose's "Mississippi's Cryin'" on SoundCloud, Jerrod Niemann's "I Love Women My Mama Can't Stand" is now the most recent charted country music song I cannot find a recording of anywhere. The Spotify link to it is dead, and no one's pirated it to YouTube or anything.

I’m surprised at how Little Texas was so hated by critics. I always liked them and I think they’ve held up pretty well.

SHeDAISY is one of the most under-appreciated country music acts to ever exist.

I don't often listen to albums, but I gotta say, "Melancholy Child" is one of Pam Tillis's strongest album cuts.

Say what you will about Blake Shelton, but naming one of his albums "Pure BS" was genuinely brilliant.

I plan a massive overhaul of Bobby Bare's Wikipedia article. This will also include giving most of his albums pages.

I did not expect the keyboardist of Exile to be an outspoken liberal LGBTQIA+ ally, but I am 300% glad he is.

I can't remember if it was @countryuniverse.bsky.social or someone else who first exposed me to this song. But it is my favorite Rodney Crowell song, and just wrecks me every time I listen to it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7A1b...

Why do I have absolutely zero memory of SHeDAISY's "This Woman Needs"? It's a DAMN good song.

If I had a nickel for every top-40 country hit in the 2010s that didn't have a credited producer, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?

I still think it's strange that Joe Diffie had "Next Thing Smokin'" and "Not Too Much to Ask" on the charts at the same time, and I have ZERO memory of either one.

It still blows my mind that someone as outspokenly liberal as Maren Morris wrote Toby Keith's "Old School", one of his many conservative boomer anthems. Did she write it to pay her dues, or was she trolling him?

True story: for about 5 1/2 years, the Wikipedia article on Eli Young Band listed two former members who never existed. The guy who created their article in 2008 added the names and I, not being a fan, never bothered to fact check them until 2013.

Was Reba's "On My Own" the last top-40 country song to have a saxophone in it?

Favorite Shenandoah singles 1. Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart 2. Ghost in This House 3. I Want to Be Loved Like That 4. Stop the Rain 5. Hey Mister (I Need This Job) 6. Next to You, Next to Me 7. Heaven Bound (I'm Ready) 8. Two Dozen Roses 9. Church on Cumberland Road 10. Moon over Georgia

I'm still not the biggest fan of Faith Hill's "Breathe", but I dislike it way less than I used to. It still made a great launching pad for what is hands down Cledus T. Judd's strongest parody, "Breath".

Would Cole Deggs & the Lonesome have been more popular if their name didn't sound like "Cold Eggs"? Even Bob Kingsley mocked the name.

What does an Eddy Raven song from 1990 have to do with a long since closed supermarket in rural Michigan and a furry convention? Stay tuned for this episode of Random Country Music Ramblings with TPH!
