One of the key pillars of authoritarianism is muzzling intellectuals and experts, leaving no one credible to point out faults in the administration's claims. We're on a fast track to dictatorship, and that's not hyperbole in the slightest.

NEW: The public acknowledgement that DOGE’s “administrator” Amy Gleason has been working a second job at HHS since February raises new questions about what the Trump admin has been saying — and telling courts — about who is in charge. w/ @meganmesserly www.politico.com/news/2025/03...

This change will drive people into overcrowded offices for no good reason. It is part of an ongoing effort, driven by Elon Musk's DOGE, to cause Social Security to collapse.

BREAKING: The Trump administration is considering to give up the role of NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe - a role that began with then-World War II hero and future president Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Seeing folks on the other site claim that Alien Enemy Act removals are not reviewable by courts. The statute explicitly requires "a full examination and hearing," and there are literally *dozens* of reported cases from the War of 1812, World War I, and World War II: law.lclark.edu/live/files/9...

Just got a statement from Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, a Democratic FTC commissioner, who was unlawfully fired today, furthering a showdown in the courts over control of independent agencies.

Scientist loses their grant funding because they briefly mentioned the word "hesitancy" in their grant.

Democrats raised the wage for workers on federally funded projects to $15 per hour. But over the weekend, Trump overturned that — taking money out of the pockets of hardworking people. Trump is bad for American workers. www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

If federal scientists don't have freedom to publish what they think is correct, then fed science is dead. Science depends on free speech—free speech for all, not just for rightwing contrarians, as Bhattacharya and his rightwing allies want. We must protect scientists' free speech rights.

BREAKING: Judge orders Elon Musk & DOGE to restore access of USAID employees, including those on administrative leave, to USAID computer systems. Judge Theodore Chuang, Obama appointee, also bars DOGE from actions related to USAID shutdown. Doc: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

the most servile people imaginable. completely unsuited for democratic citizenship. they would be better off under a despot.

WE WON! PI granted in substantial part in our @sddaction.bsky.social appointments clause case re USAID

very excited to do 2002/2003 except somehow stupider and potentially more destructive

From a source: “Just had a co-presenter for a buildings research conference bow out. She’s a dual citizen and the FBI came knocking to ask her about her involvement in coauthoring chunks of the Paris Agreement. Climate science is being literally (and I mean literally) criminalized.”

been wondering when we would see a case like this. I saw many reactions to Mahmoud Khalil like 'if this can happen to a permanent resident, it can happen to a citizen too.' which is true! and also, in my head I was like...this is def already happening to citizens and just hasn't blown up yet 😬

I spoke with @audiosand.bsky.social for @npr.org All Things Considered about the fact that the "Anti-DEI" movement is an anti-Civil Rights Movement. www.npr.org/2025/03/17/n...

I was at USIP tonight to conduct congressional oversight over DOGE’s break in. I spoke with Acting President & CEO Moose. USIP is an independent, non-profit entity and I will work to stop DOGE’s illegal power grab.

The government broke the law, violated a court order, and lied about it, and now it is telling the court "you have no right to make us reveal our misconduct to the world." These people need to be put in their place fast or this kind of criminality will continue nonstop for 4 years!

Totally agree with this. Flying a person to a third country that they may never have been to, directly into a prison where they are going to be forced to do hard labor, is not a deportation; it's something else entirely.

2000+ Jewish professors, staff, and students circulating a letter on Trump-Vance's arrest of Mahmoud Khalil: "We hold various views…But we are united in denouncing…anyone who invokes our name—and cynical claims of antisemitism—to harass, expel, arrest, or deport members of our campus communities."

Government lawyers in the AEA case, basically: Tren de Aragua is considered an invading foreign government because of its deep ties to the Maduro regime, which is a close ally in our efforts to expel members of the Tren de Aragua terrorist organization. ????

JUST IN: A federal judge in Maryland has ordered the reinstatement of some federal education grants that were canceled as a result of Trump's anti-DEI executive order. The judge said the terminations violated legal processes. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

One close Trump adviser simply says that the president’s ultimate leverage against certain judges who try to stand in the way of his agenda is that the judiciary does not command an army, while the president of the United States does.

Elon Musk isn't going to save the government any money. It's the opposite, in fact. He's currently pursuing a move that could blow a multi-trillion-dollar hole in the federal budget and let billionaires get away with tax evasion. Here's how 🧵

Got a little scoop here. The next general counsel of the NLRB will be a virtually unknown lawyer at union-busting law firm Morgan Lewis, whose biggest recent client is Amazon. prospect.org/labor/2025-0...

UNREAL. ICE implies in a sworn declaration that MOST of the Venezuelans sentenced to hard labor in a brutal Central American prison without charge or trial or so much as a cursory hearing had never been convicted or even charged with ANY CRIME whatsoever, not even a trivial one, anywhere, ever!

Yes. This is the death of US biomedical research by weaponizing administrative burden. It’s the GOP playbook— they have long increased admin burden in red states to defund Medicaid, unemployment, and other safety net programs they don’t like. See @donmoyn.bsky.social Now they want to privatize NIH.

being latino with a tattoo is now a federal crime

My theory on why Trump is choosing THIS order to defy is 1) someone at White House made the decision [cough, Stephen Miller] w/o properly vetting it, and now DOJ has to dig in and 2) like suspected fuck-ups at USAID, if they back down it'll reveal just how incompetent they really are.

You may see care for the intellectually and developmentally disabled as a moral imperative. Private equity has been consolidating the field for the last decade because, well, because of money. Dan Boguslaw reports on a new study of PE's lucrative rollup, and the consequences:

Our HHS Secretary recently repeated that he believes Lyme disease (caused by a bacteria we have proof has been around for thousands of years) was “man made” as a “military weapon.” This was also repeated by Joe Rogan this week. In 2002, antivaxxers got the previous Lyme vaccine pulled from market…
