This shit freaks people out. Keep talking about it.

Some things to know about General Brown: - 41 years of military service - F16 fighter pilot and instructor with 3000 flight hours, 130 in combat - Master’s in aeronautical science - son of a U.S. Army colonel and Vietnam veteran - grandson of a WW2 veteran

And yet The Atlantic today publishes a gossipy piece on how shocked the top officers are by the purge, also explicitly promised in Hegseth’s book of last spring.

"the poll shows that majorities oppose cutting taxes on corporations. It finds that 63 percent say their top priority for tax policy is helping 'working-class families,' versus one percent—no, really, one percent—who say it’s helping corporations and the wealthiest Americans."

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

BREAKING: The Department of Veterans Affairs has CANCELLED SUICIDE PREVENTION TRAINING because it includes considerations for the LGBTQ+ community. Veterans suicide.

He nails it.

WaPo’s use of “unusual” further obscures the blunt racism of the white 3-star’s elevation. “Unusual” is a raised eyebrow; more accurately, this never happens. Until now. To replace a 4-star Black general w/ an undistinguished white 3-star ass-kisser.

A pundit tried to argue with @jamellebouie.net just yesterday that Trump isn’t trying to resegregate the bureaucracy. But this stuff would make Woodrow Wilson proud.

So DOGE's 'wall of receipts' is riddled with errors, falsehoods and distortions. big shock. about what you'd expect from 6 tech bros dragged over from the strip club www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

Unironically, these letters are a good example of how we’re ruled by evil men now. It would have cost them nothing to be at least slightly sympathetic. “Hey man, we know this is rough, but we have to tighten our belts and…” They instead deliberately made them as cruel as possible.

Again, the most interesting political development of 2025 is a large and growing class of civic professionals...scientists, military officers, teachers, park rangers, diplomats etc etc etc...who have had their futures cut short by the whims of a lame duck and his unelected, drug-addicted benefactor.

The politics of spite are alive and well in Donald Trump's Washington. This compelling piece from The Big Picture explores how the MAGA Republican Party has transformed obstruction into an electoral strategy and what Democrats can do to counter this trend.

Every vaccine already requires informed consent by law. This is pure antivaxx disinformation, now coming from the CDC.

Elon: I gave a Nazi salute Steve Baron Harkonnen: Me as well! Nazi reporting for duty. Hitler, screaming from the pits of Hell: Yep, 100% my guys! MSM: Curious muscle spasms cause Arm Extension Syndrome when certain men are speaking to crowds of people who want Jews dead.

There are a lot of things one could say in response, but what jumps out is the complete amnesia this requires about Trump’s first term.

"The scientific review officer said he could describe the impact of these layoffs on [NIH's] ability to review grant applications and fund research in two words: 'We’re fucked'" I guess at least I've been accurate in how I describe the current situation.

one of the people being laid off from all this DOGE chicanery is someone I've known for 13+ years who has been a federal government employee for two decades, in two different federal departments, and he is so incredibly angry

Thank you, CREW!

🚨NEW: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning to fire Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff C.Q. Brown, a 4-Star General and 41-year veteran of the Air Force who flew over 130 hours in combat as a fighter pilot. REPOST if you stand with General C.Q. Brown against Hegseth!

From an IRS employee in Texas, one of thousands still awaiting news on whether they still have jobs: "It's a mess. Lot of tears. Managers also just received an email that there was some glitch and not everyone received their letters."

Privatization leads to abuse.

This is what true politicization of the DoJ looks like.

“What’s efficient about firing people you have to scramble to hire back? What are the cost savings of a few thousand federal employees compared to the F-35 program? What are we even doing here, actually?” www.wired.com/story/doge-i...

Just a reminder that the world's richest man is not charitable. Vacuums up money, whines when he doesn't get more of it, delights in crushing unions and upending people's lives. Got a "1" philanthropy score from Forbes in 2023 for giving less than 1% away. www.forbes.com/sites/phoebe...

I don't think the Dems can stop the firings. But why aren't they proposing legislation that assures those that took the buyout get paid , and that all that are fired, get at least a year severance and health benefits? And any one with a health condition is covered the entire time they are sick?

168 colleagues lost yesterday, 6 in Earth Sciences alone. Today we grieved. And strategized. www.npr.org/2025/02/18/n...

“There’s too much going on. It’s overwhelming.” If that sounds familiar, this piece is for you. Jay Kuo breaks up Donald's latest power plays into three categories: bad, worse, and worst. It may sound heavy, but understanding them makes it easier to stay informed without feeling buried.

New: DOGE's spending has been secret. No longer. My colleagues have uncovered it. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

Still very early in the year of course, but as of Feb 18, Baltimore had 15 homicides, compared with 27 at this time last year, on the heels of huge drops for the past two years. Just hoping that the disappearance of federal funds doesn't disrupt this (see also: MD's 38% drop in overdose deaths).
