I do not believe that God wills cancer, or multiple sclerosis...I know only that el can come into whatever happens, and by being part of it, can return it to wholeness. This is a large part of the meaning of incarnation. Nothing ever happens to us alone. It happens to God, too. And It Was Good

...if I am a human being who writes, and who sends my stories out into the world for people to read, then I must have the courage to make a commitment to the unknown and the unknowable (in the sense of intellectual proof), the world of love and particularity which gives light to the darkness.

This is perhaps the most difficult lesson of all to learn. If we love God, then we must also love each other. Sold Into Egypt

Children are less easily frightened than we are. They have no problem in understanding how Alice could walk through the mirror into the country on the other side; some of them have done it themselves. And they all understand princesses of course. Haven't they all been badly bruised by peas?

Madeleine's father, Charles Wadsworth Camp, wrote two books about his WWI experience, War’s Dark Frame and History of the 305th Field Artillery. Both are included in this new volume, with an intro by a military historian, and an afterword by Madeleine's granddaughter. https://buff.ly/4hNbC4T

“We human beings grow through our failures, not our virtues.” Certain Women

Poetry, at least the kind I write, is written out of immediate need; it is written out of pain, joy, and experience too great to be borne until it is ordered into words. And then it is written to be shared. The Ordering of Love

“When asked why she wrote for children, L’Engle would often reply, ‘I don’t’—her stories were stories she needed to write, for whomever wanted to read them. But she also remembered what it felt like to be young, how endless the possibilities were, real or imagined.1/2 https://buff.ly/4e9rM7r

In any dictatorship, writers are among the first to be imprisoned, and vocabulary is quickly diminished and language deteriorates. Writers, if their vocabulary is not leashed, are quick to see injustice, and rouse the people to do something about it. 1/2
