I’m halfway through reading my dissertation out loud to try and catch mistakes/weird phrasing, and I’m at the point where I’m convinced nothing makes sense.

Yesterday I was asking my partner who he thinks I should dedicate my dissertation to and he goes “yourself?” 😂❤️

Writing footnotes is easy when you reference certain books so much you have their Chicago style citation memorized.

My grandma (whom I happen to be visiting) was a huge Jimmy Carter fan.

Every time I think the inter-allied commission can’t get more dramatic, it does. December 1922: The commission president accuses the Japanese and British commissioners of seeking “personal revenge” against the Italian and French commissioners when they threatened to vote for Hať to go to Germany.

In February, I’ll be giving the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies’ Emerging Scholars Talk on Zoom. Event page is linked below, but registration won’t be live until January. Mark your calendars for February 3 at 5:30pm EST if you’re interested in Jewish burial societies and funeral homes in Poland.

#ASEEES24, early 8h panel on "Border Changes after WWII," saying hello to the sun.

On my way to Boston for #ASEEES24! I’ll be presenting tomorrow (Friday) at 8am as part of a panel on local involvement in border changes after WWI. Should be fun!!

Since I’m new to this place: Hi! I’m Tess and I’m a PhD candidate in history researching the mapping of Czechoslovakia after WWI. My dissertation looks at mapmakers, boundary commissions, and border disputes along the Austrian and German borders with Bohemia. Thanks for the follow!

What’s a more panic-inducing comment from a supervisor who is reading your text?

Thank you to my wonderful Czech friend who helps me when I have difficulty pronouncing a name or word.

I'm starting a Modern European Historians list here on BlueSky. If you have any suggestions for others to include, add their handles in the comment below. 👍
