As I look at our nation today, all I can think of is a quote from Will Rogers. "There are three kinds of people. The one that learns by reading, the few who learn by observation, and the rest that just have to pee on the electric fence themselves."

Best part of writing an aggressive amnesiac character searching for his identity are the threats: *Holding a gun to the antagonist's head* "Do you have any idea who you're talking to!?"

Started reading this and it’s fantastic. The Cold War but with superpowers makes for good storytelling.

Not the divine intervention I was expecting.

Defending my first draft to editors:

My friend: I read your book, it was great! Me: Oh, thank you. What did you think of the extended incredibly detailed porcupine torture scene?

I saw COMPANION and thought it was a lot of fun. It leans more into sci-fi than horror, but that doesn't detract from it at all. If anything, it reminded me of an extended episode of Black Mirror and is highly cathartic. Would recommend if you like seeing toxic people get taken down.

Introduced Ada (my daughter) to Godzilla and she’s become a fanatic. I couldn’t be happier. Emily: You’ve created a monster. Me: The King of the Monsters! 😂

Just a reminder, that everything happening is designed to make you feel overwhelmed, to feel hopeless, to make you think you have no power. And like everyone that traffics in lies, this is another one.

Mexico has the opportunity to do something hilarious…

Book mail for today. A continuation of the book series that inspired me to begin my own writing journey.

General Writing Update. Neo-Slasher: 90K... I feel like Frodo on the slopes of Mt. Doom here. Small 20K word novella titled "Not All Men". 5k Short Story. I have 1k done. I don't know what it is, but my mind feels like it's firing on all cylinders again. I've got so much energy and ideas.

The Monster That Challenged The World was one of my favorite monster movies when I was a kid. 1950's atomic monster fest featuring giant prehistoric snails. I do think the title is a bit of misnomer. It should really have been titled: The Monster That Inconvenienced The County.

SUN DEVILS is a relatively obscure Space Opera series published by DC in the mid 80s. Managed to snag the entire run for $15 and they’re in great condition.

And I’m CLICKING to see who is going to warn us next.

So Jacob wrestled God and got a blessing out of it. At this point, if the Creator would like to fight me I’d be down. I’ve got requests and feel like a brawl with the divine would be great fun. Be happy to buy him pizza afterward. Being able to brag I fought God would be a great story.

Went and saw Grady Hendrix last night in Tulsa. He’s on tour for his new book Witchcraft for Wayward Girls, and he put on a fantastic show. Grady is a great writer, and his books have a “feel good” aspect that is rare in most horror works. Go pick up one of his works, starting with Wayward!

When I started working on my neo-slasher, there was a line I came up with for the pivotal moment, when everything hit the fan and there was no going back. I finally got to use it yesterday: The world was built on colors of black, white, and grey. And I’d come home to the shade that suited me.

Years of writing horror novels and I finally got a bad review based on "themes of violence and cussing". Apparently the young gentleman even took pains to keep it out of the hands of his younger siblings. I feel like I just won a prize.

I met Jimmy Carter on a mountain many years ago. My Dad and I finished a ski run and came to a quick stop at the lift… only to have two secret service agents draw on us. Turns out; the former President was waiting for the next lift. Class act all the way, may he rest in peace

Observations watching NOSFERATU last night: You might want to rethink your vocation as a vampire hunter if your vampire killing plan boils down to “Sex so good he forgets what time it is.”

Fun fact for all Avatar the Last Airbender fans, you will in fact fly if you jump on a bison and scream “yip yip.” The bison may or may not remain on the ground.

After seven years of doing this professionally, I finally have an idea for a Christmas horror novel. Maybe next Christmas 😂

Bob, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. This made my day.

As the mom of a beautiful trans daughter whose security, safety, and mental well-being were my utmost priority during her transition, I have to agree with @diebooth.bsky.social. I think it’s a reasonable request.

This isn't 'debate'. This is me asking if they'd consider making the trans anthology they intend on publishing safer for trans authors (who they intend to profit off) to submit to. Me wanting answers isn't getting 'weird', it's an important issue. Anyway, I've had my say. A press to avoid, I feel.

Just hit the 80k mark on my neo-slasher. I just wrote a BRUTAL death scene. I’m reluctantly having to stop for the night, but eager to pick it back up tomorrow.

Merry Krampusnacht everybody! May you be blessed to not receive season’s beatings.

Received an excellent BOREALIS review yesterday. I'm glad it can give people the chills. Hopefully the extreme southern auroras from these past few months will continue because who doesn't like universal marketing?

Heading to the cabin for the weekend, so if anyone needs me, I’ll be out of pocket until Sunday. Any emails or texts will be received on my daily trip to the top of the mountain to get service. 👍

The worst part of reading House of Leaves in public is how stupid I look doing so . “Yes, I’m aware I’m holding the book upside down and turning it in circles.”

Watched this one. It’s the first movie I’ve seen that came with a trigger warning at the beginning and it was admittedly deserved. Go in blind, the twists are dark and the payoff is excellent. One of the best horror/ thriller movies I’ve watched in awhile. 4 out of 5 ⭐️

Career retrospective. It’s hard to believe I’ve made it even this far. Not finished by a long shot, but sometimes it’s good to see how far you’ve come.

I have a foolproof plan in case I watch a cursed videotape. GIRL FROM THE RING: "Seven Days!" ME: "Make It Four."

Watched this one last night. A nice little forgotten slasher that inverted the formula long before the rest of us started trying.

The Borealis reviews just keep getting better. This has been my favorite other than the one saying I was mentally disturbed.

This is my new favorite BOREALIS review. At least they seemed to enjoy it.🤟

Already feeling the FOMO of not being at KillerCon, Austin this weekend. I hope everybody has a great time and I wish all the Splatterpunk Award Nominees good luck! Can't wait to see all the pictures of the event.
