The CTA said buses on eight routes will arrive every 10 minutes or sooner between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends beginning March 23. Twelve more routes will be added later this year. www.wbez.org/transportati...

At this point I am curious if there is any evidence of *normal* town hall meetings happening.

I switched to the public sector 10 years ago largely because I was inspired by the civic tech principles embodied by 18F. Not to minimize this huge loss - but there are people at every level off local/state/federal government who carry this work on and they can’t fire all of us.

Bears repeating that social security is incredibly INCREDIBLY efficient to run. Its overhead costs are basically zero when you consider the size of the undertaking and the genuine benefits delivered. If anyone was interested in improving govt efficiency, the SSA would be their model not their target

You don’t need to be an infectious disease doctor to see where this is going

Remarkable resignation letter from the Justice Department's chief information officer in the immigration review division — a disabled veteran. Obtained by @propublica.org's Brett Murphy:

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt 🧵on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT

UPDATE: The Coeur d’Alene Press spoke with the woman who was dragged out of a town hall for heckling legislators, confirmed which security firm worked the event and spoke with Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris and Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White about the events.

This is *exactly* what talking to my conservative family feels like. They cannot see how this is any different than how they felt under Insert the Name of Democratic President here.

This is a remarkable first-person narrative of what happened at their federal agency when the rats moved in. But also an extraordinary document of knowing yourself and what you will and won't do. Thank you Ethan.

A free training for scientists about how to protect yourself while engaging in public advocacy, from the The Union of Concerned Scientists. See you there!

William T. Coleman played a pivotal role in shaping public transportation during his tenure as the first African American appointed to U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Coleman addressed key issues of national transportation policy and infrastructure, defending the rights of transit employees.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

I keep telling colleagues in my field (transportation, land use, housing, public comms and data) who don’t use LinkedIn regularly that they need to start. People need support, resources, etc. And it’s actually been a source of first hand news accounts I am not seeing anywhere else.

Text of today's Opinion piece in Crain's in support of a stronger RTA @rtachicago.bsky.social rather than consolidation of the transit agencies. Recent weeks have certainly underscored the importance of independent oversight.

"The value of Chicago's public transit system is too significant to pause progress for 4 years while we sort out a merger. If we fund transit with $1.5B, RTA will start spending it tomorrow. The climate and Chicago need an empowered RTA now, not the MMA." www.chicagobusiness.com/opinion/chic...

As an Army brat born in Germany, this fills my heart w pride and does not surprise me. The Army rank and file is diverse AF and they see this man for exactly what he is.

"Currently, there are no changes to how the RTA is functioning. We remain committed to our mission to oversee the region’s transit system with transparency and accountability and plan for a future with adequate, accessible, and equitable public transportation for the six counties of northeast IL"

RTA is proposing a historic restructuring of the region’s transit governance to maximize the impact of new operating funding and ensure all riders experience an improved, reliable, efficient, integrated transit network. 🚉 www.rtachicago.org/blog/2025/01...

The first Trump administration tried to block sanctuary cities from receiving some law enforcement grants. Now they're threatening a much, much bigger pot of money: federal transportation dollars. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/31/u...

It's been 3 weeks since Congestion Relief Zone tolling went into effect, and the program is working! We're seeing traffic move quicker into and within Manhattan, which benefits all New Yorkers—drivers, bus riders, emergency vehicle operators, pedestrians, and more.

One of the ways chaos out of DC can harm meaningful progress on climate and equity is by distracting from reform that is within our control on the state level. Transit operations in Chicago are locally and state funded. It's critical we don't take the temporary "solution" route that PA has taken.

CTA trains every five to 10 minutes all day and better Metra service at midday, nights and weekends. One app for fares and transfers across services. Buses that can bypass traffic. This is the vision for the future of transit set to be outlined Wednesday by RTA Chairman Kirk Dillard.
