Didn't think I'd end up watching anything mind-blowing before the end of the month, but oops, just watched The Draughtsman's Contract which is a gorgeously shot and richly insult-filled class film.

70,000 people in a stadium yelling "a minor." Christ

Four favourite first watches of January 2025. Good start to the year! Nosferatu (2024) Lost Highway La Haine Babygirl

Using generative ai in your film is bad enough, but to use it in a film about an architect's lifework and then use ai slop to show off all the buildings he made is a particular breed of tone-deaf idiocy

THE 25 BEST FILMS OF 2024 A video countdown vimeo.com/1046284152

It needs to be Discussed.

Only a few days of break left, kick-starting reading for the year. 'I’d always liked my wife’s earthy vitality, the way she would catch cockroaches by smacking them with the palm of her hand. She really had been the most ordinary woman in the world.'

Starting the year off right with The Lighthouse, ready for Nosferatu tomorrow

Saw in 2025 reading a manga perfect for the time, Tokyo These Days, about middle-aged creatives. It's reflective and Taiyo Matsumoto's art is full of the usual charm.

Merry Christmas~

Wouldn't be a celebration of the season without a Green Knight

20 years ago we were suing teenagers for millions of dollars because they were torrenting a single Metallica album and now billionaires are demanding the free right to every work in history, so that they can re-sell it. The law only ever serves capital.

Just got out from seeing Queer and yeah, that'll do it. Luca Guadagnino has had a hell of a year with Challengers and now this tender, messy, surreal and lonely star of a film. Daniel Craig's post-Bond career has taken him to some very interesting places.

I wish I could show my class R+J but they're too young. Which feels odd to follow up with the fact I got my class of twenty 10 year olds to perform scenes from Macbeth to each other and they loved every second. Absolutely a skill issue.

Sometimes I’ll buy one of those really big bags of posh Tyrells Crisps and think “why, this amount of crisps will last me three, maybe four days?”. But then I will sit down with the big bag of crisps, and I will enter into what might medically be referred to as a “crisp trance”.

Letterboxd is down which means I have no real outlet to gush about how good Godland is. Such a beautiful (yet bleak) film that can't have been difficult to find a stunning location to shoot a scene on.

Coming off the back-end of a cold, which means I'm dual wielding hot drinks to get me through the day but also means I'm prone to dunking a digestive in a lemsip when I stop paying attention (not the worst turns out.)

Wasn't able to go to @thoughtbubbleuk.bsky.social this year due to a stag do, so am vicariously living through everyone who did via their hauls, show me more comics!

Introduce yourself with One book 📚 One movie 🎥 One album 💿 One tv show 📺

I think the whole idea of the ick has gotten a bit out of hand, but I did just chase a table tennis ball that fell off a table and you know? I kind of get it now.

i know it's cringe to post star wars as ~revolution~ or whatever, & that's not what this is, but I do think about this sequence from Andor a lot bc I know how paralyzing it is to feel overwhelmed. So, I'll continue working in the lanes where I feel the most needed/helpful.

Wishing all those back garden firework displayers a merry fuck you

Happy Halloween~

I'm playing Metaphor: ReFantazio at the moment and would just like to put out there I would die for Heismay.

In the process of buying a house and it is bringing up a lot of questions...

It doesn't take much to prompt tears from me these days, but was surprised to get them drawn out by watching The Iron Claw. Do I....like wrestling now?

How you know you're one of the OGs. Forever stuck.
