Exactly

“A new study has calculated that increasing trees and other vegetation in urban areas by 30% could have prevented more than 1/3rd of all global heat-related deaths between 2000 to 2019. In total, 1.16 million lives may have been saved with more greenery during this 20-year period.” Via @euronews.com

Though I strive to be a non-judgmental person, I simply can’t trust anyone who doesn’t consider The Princess Bride to be one of the greatest films of all-time.

If you had told me 5 years ago that Corey Hogan would be my MP and that I’d be glad to see Jeromy Farkas in a mayoral race, I would have thought that dogs and cats would be living together, mass hysteria. Which I guess is kind of happening…

Alberta being embarrassing as usual

Lethbridge Police Service seems to be going the same way as Calgary Police Service has with their dogs. Sigh. Although Calgary’s canine unit was formed in 1960, Canada’s historic use of police dogs on Black people dates from slave catchers to current day.  A bit of a long thread. 1/🧵

This is quite adorable. Watch till the end. Love this guy. #yyc #cdnpoli

I mean… Yeah. Yeah they do. For entirely known and warned-about reasons. Yes. www.science.org/content/arti...

Danielle Smith is bad for Canada.

🇨🇦🗳️ There are a lot of reasons why Mark Carney shouldn’t run in a riding in Edmonton but the prospect of having a Liberal Prime Minister from Conservative- dominated Alberta is such a wild idea that would turn Canadian politics on its head that I hope he does it.

Whoa... this is an amazing photo.

I've lived my whole life on the Canadian prairies. Over the past decade, I've sensed new forms of western alienation and populism gripping the region. Here's what I'm seeing.🧵

a tale in two parts

I think about this from @naomiaklein.bsky.social a lot. "Conspiracy theorists get the facts wrong but often get the feelings right." The sense that people are gaining wealth from human suffering while concealing reality is valid, but the root problem isn't evil people but the nature of capitalism.

On International Women’s Day, may I present my hero, and Pediatric Nephrologist 😉 Verna Yiu. She was instrumental in keeping us afloat in the worst of the pandemic. She’s a kind physician, inclusive leader, and outstanding role model. www.ualberta.ca/en/the-quad/...

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

This is the teepee in our city here in Alberta Canada Lit up showing support for #Ukraine Its the tallest teepee in the world #Ukraine #CanadastandswithUkraine #CharacterMatters #Kindmatters 🇺🇦💙🇺🇦💙🇨🇦🤗 ##IstandwithUkraine

"Air Brakes" It is amazing to watch the way in which owls can control their flight with such precision. #wildlife #birds #owls

Yeah, I’m done living in interesting times.

Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

DOGE recommended firing workers at: -FDA, which oversees Neuralink -FAA, which oversees SpaceX -USAID, which probed Starlink -CFPB, which oversees Tesla's financing arm and a potential payment platform on X. "Conflict of interest" is a severe understatement.

You know what was more important than the booing? The way a crowd in Montreal sang the anthem, in English and French, with their whole chests. That was the stuff.

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want to read books, drink tea, and eat pastries in a humble seaside cottage during a raging storm?

The UCP's forced abstinence legislation (Compassionate Intervention Act) is intended to be modeled after Alberta's forced abstinence legislation for youth (PChAD Act). They didn't mention a statistic that should give everyone serious pause: 41% of youth forced through PChAD are Indigenous. 1/

I have read the entire statement of claim filed by Ms. Mentzelopoulos’ legal team. It’s a doozy. If you haven’t read it, you should. www.scribd.com/document/827... Of course, the government will respond, but Christ on a bike. A really long thread. 🧵 1/

No other premier in Alberta history could survive 48 hours under the cloud of suspicion Smith now faces. Over half a billion dollars makes Sky Palace look like a sandcastle. If her cabinet and MLAs aren't meeting to discuss, it's a dereliction of duty. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/alber...

SCOOP: Danielle Smith's government fired the head of Alberta Health Services two days before she was to meet with the Auditor-General to discuss her internal investigation into procurement contracts and deals for private surgical facilities. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/alber... #abpoli #ableg

I can. In fact, the Canadian version is so great, I can't think of an American equivalent. 🧵

It's interesting to listen to Canadian premiers in their responses to the Trump tariffs. Some talk about protecting Canadian workers. Some about protecting Canadian businesses. Some about protecting protecting Americans from 45lbs of fentanyl. #Priorities

Reminder to Americans that your anthem is about us blowing the shit out of one of your forts.

Toxic positivity is pressuring people to look on the bright side. They have to suppress anxiety, anger, sadness, and grief. Healthy support is shielding people from the dark side. You invite them to express their pain, and show them they're not alone and won't feel it forever.

I find it's useful to think of trauma recovery as a relationship between the "parts" of us that hold trauma feelings & memories, "parts" that hold hopes & dreams, & "parts" that just want a normal, functional life. Every "part" matters, needs care, & needs to be listened to.

Homan went on CNN to complain that ICE’s attempts to arrest Chicagoans has been hampered by the people’s knowledge of policy—largely because of the city’s “Know Your Rights” campaign. Fascists rely on your compliance. On your ignorance. They depend upon your fear. Disappoint them.
