Some weekend listening for all my fellow anaesthetists: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Exclusive: Starmer responds to Elon Musk’s grooming gang allegations. (this is fucking hilarious) 😂

Oh good, an independent commission on reforming adult social care. They always work.

Last ‘Cowper’s Cut’ of 2024 outside the paywall for a couple of hours. I mean, who’s doing anything much around now? www.healthpolicyinsight.com/cowpers-cut-...

@andrewhunterm.bsky.social An excellent finale to the series. Well done to everyone involved.

NHS Pension Scheme ‘Interesting’ that it runs a surplus of over £4.4bn per year NHS staff with their ‘golden’ pensions costing the country £Millions. Well it appears not to be the case 🤔 www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/sites/defaul...

Very foggy around here at the moment. Many drivers seemingly oblivious to the fact that in many cases their car’s automatic day running lights only illuminate the front of their vehicle and don’t illuminate the rear at all. Suggest you double check your own car, it might save you being rear ended!

Trump’s Christmas Address…

We’re visiting my parents for Christmas. Have been there for less than 2hrs & already successfully dealt with: IT problem (via tertiary referral to my youngest daughter). ✅ Misaligned fridge door problem. ✅ I wonder what else they’ve got lined up for me…🤔

Nigel. He only visits once a year.

£3 a week pays for all your GP services This is 67p less than 8 years ago in real terms If you can’t see a GP it’s because NHS England have cut the funding for GP practices

I’m struck by the incongruity of politicians like Jeremy Hunt being in favour of providing senior “second opinions” in NHS hospitals (Martha’s law) while also having facilitated the widespread introduction of non-medically qualified PAs (Noctors) into the NHS. #R4Today

I'm feeling old seeing these two all grown up..

The Government’s suggested 2.8% pay uplift for doctors shows a poor grasp of unresolved pay issues. Full statement from BMA chair of council Prof Phil Banfield here [1/2]: www.bma.org.uk/bma-media-ce...

Things that made huge changes to the patients I saw as an anaesthetist. Seatbelt law 1983 - saw huge change in head injuries leading to organ donation Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccination 1992 changed the annual influx of children with acute epiglottitis needing intubation and ventilation.

Oh no. According to my employer, I’ll cease knowing an adequate amount about “equality and human rights” at midnight on the 6th of March. Better crack open my training of dubious quality.

Here’s a link to the Government consultation regarding regulation of NHS managers (in England). Nothing to stop you filling it in if you live / work elsewhere in the U.K. (Takes ~ 20 mins). Long overdue in my opinion (after 30 yrs as an NHS doctor). consultations.dhsc.gov.uk/67221f12b280...

Going out of business sale?

The world hide and seek competition was held in Dolgellau today, Wales were eliminated in the first round.

Don’t know who made this, but I love it. #Ansky #medsky

editorial from @bmj.com and paper: Poor staff retention is associated with higher patient mortality. Have said it before & I’ll say it again. If you don’t care for the carers, they cannot care for their patients. www.bmj.com/content/387/...

Was talking to @maffygirl.bsky.social and @urethroplasty.bsky.social about this and thought I’d share. Perhaps the greatest perioperative medicine trial (n)ever undertaken. The CRAC-ON trial. A @chrimesy.com classic associationofanaesthetists-publications.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

This is both sad and infuriating. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Can never understand the logic of "slippery slope" arguments when we have a system where the House of Commons decides nearly everything. It's only a slippery slope if in the future the Commons changes its mind on something- which guess what, it can do at any time.

Someone called this mass exodus from Twitter ‘the fall of the Broman Empire’ and I died laughing. 💀
