There were images in the trailer for this season of The Rehearsal that I told myself would make sense in context. And while they do, they open up a lot of other questions as well.

Since Strange Days is on Criterion Channel this month, there's probably a lot of people who haven't seen it before. Here's it's teaser trailer, one of the best examples of that genre form. And it's also basically an adaption of a conversation that happens in the movie itself.

Gonna need someone to make an edit of Uncle Baby Billy doing coke at the gator park with Popeye's music over it.

Got an email from the cardealer I bought my family's car from with info on what vehicles they had that were tarrif proof. We are all fucked

Reading Gen-Zers post about seeing Revenge of the Sith in it's 20th anniversary showing may be the final moment before I severe ties with them

A movie I've watched more than six times. (Gifs only, with Hard mode: no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

You can tell Black Mirror is not an American show because the first episode imagines a nightmare scenario where someone who needs lifesaving medical treatment is slowly priced out of those treatments leading to desperate actions. Oh and Silicon Valley tech is only making it worse not better.

St Peter at the pearly gates:

Been a few years but today I got a “ok, Russ, you know a lot about movies, have you ever heard of The Room?” It was then follow-up with them asking if I knew Troll 2.

There’s a certain type of Catholic scorn that you can tell is new to trad converts because they didn’t grow up with Catholic moms that know how to not just layer guilt but convince you that it’s your own conscience doing it.

Tonight’s fine beverage pairs well with a staggeringly underpriced hot dog, 64 babybel cheeses, and bag of popcorn big enough that it could be mistaken for a beanbag chair.

Probably the worst trend in movie trailers right now is when using licensed music, isolating one line and just repeating it over and over again to drive home that’s why the song was chosen. I know audiences are dumb, but it’s more annoying than helpful/instructive.

Can’t wait to get back to the coal mines.

When my in laws visit it can be difficult to find something everyone can enjoy to watch after the kids are in bed but Colombo seems to be the perfect middle ground show.

While of course it’s perfect insanity, I also think the President’s Day one in Gremlins 2 is the perfect follow up because it ends with Billy showing he has the time and sympathy for one holiday themed trauma but not a second.

Potty training weekend and it’s just been a lot of me staring at my kid like this as he’s in the process of finishing pooping in his brand new undies.

Fantastic watch if you’ve never seen it. Reading notes on The Leftovers season 3 got me interested I watching. It’s an obvious influence.

Unless something wild happens next week, will marvel at the confidence of The Pitt to peak its intensity/pacing at episode 12 of 15 in its first season. Just a bold decision. That’s just not how it’s done.

Thinking of this for no reason

Listening to the latest @flophousepodcast.bsky.social on Heartbeeps, and while everything they say about the movie is accurate, all I can reflect on is that my first exposure to the movie was a academic text on sci-fi films and considering it as an important film in the genre’s history.

Studying the classics

I may be in over my head here

Saw a bunch of Val Kilmer posts, but didn’t think too much of it because there’s never a bad time to celebrate him. Then saw one with “was” and was heartbroken. I guess because of his performance in Top Gun Maverick, most people were up to date, still doesn’t make it sting less.

“Look, was DC continuity a mess pre-Crisis? Yes. Was it better after? I think the fact they had to do Zero Hour just a few years later would indicate no. Now back to my point on Hypertime…”

Always funny when an MST3K movie gets the boutique Blu-ray treatment.

Still remember the Adult Swim April fools joke of showing The Room on a loop. I was at a hotel for an academic conference, fell asleep watching TV, woke up to the scene of Tommy getting out of bed to show ass but there being a tasteful blackbar blocking the business.

Gearing up for a new week.

At an indoor playspace with the kids, and the music has mostly been Kidz Bop, but Alice Deejay’s “Better Off Alone” started and all the millennial parents started losing their shit and dancing like they read from the winter soldier activation codes.

During paternity leave for my son, my wife and I did a watch of ER. It was mostly new for her while I had watched most several times. Really excited to see some Pitt inspired newbies get into the trenches of one of my favorite shows.

One of my best friends keeps using AI images in the group chat and I’ve gone from casually asking him to stop to now just responding with Butlerian Jihad themed responses but he’s not a Dune fan so he hasn’t picked up how angry I am.

Pollen is currently insane right now. Everything outside coated in a green powder. 20 minutes of walking my dog caused my eyes to swell up. Towards the end, felt like haze in the air there was so much free floating pollen.
