🚨1 day in and we’ve hit 7,000. Industry is pedalling sugar-laden pouches to the parents of toddlers, dressing them up as ‘healthy’ options. Govt wants to refocus from treatment to prevention. Tell Ministers action here can deliver on decay & diabetes👇 you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ma...

A dentists we believe in prevention. And the shocking sugar levels in these baby pouches isn't' inevitable. It's a commercial choice. Tell Government to make industry do the right thing👉 https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/make-sugar-the-new-tobacco

This cause is close to my heart - please sign: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ma...

"Children barely out of weaning are presenting with multiple teeth that are decayed," says @eddiecrouch.bsky.social "A result of the diets that they're having when these teeth are first coming through." Tell govt to step up 👇 https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/make-sugar-the-new-tobacco

Baby teeth start coming through around 6 months old. These food pouches are high in sugar. Having removed teeth for children as young as 2 years old, who were experiencing pain and infections, we need action from the manufacturers now. Tooth decay is almost always preventable.

🥤It's shocking to see baby foods with more sugar than fizzy drinks. Sadly, brand leaders are trying to make cosmetic changes to packaging, rather than reformulate their products. Govt needs to step up. 👉 you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ma...

I’ll be on BBC Panorama tonight speaking to our damning new research on sugar levels in baby pouches. Parents are being hoodwinked into thinking they’re buying healthy options. Government needs to step in.

Parents of infants are still being marketed products more sugary than Coke. It shouldn’t take us naming & shaming the worst offenders to bring about needed change. Voluntary action has failed. Govt need to step up & force industry to do the right thing.

Great to visit My Dental Care today & meet dentist Mark Marcou to discuss issues accessing #NHS dentistry in Southgate & Wood Green & challenges facing NHS practices 🪥 I am glad the Govt is committed to saving NHS #dentistry & ensuring everyone who needs access, can get it 🦷

Pleasure to bring @bambosmp.bsky.social to speak to our member Mark Marcou in Bounds Green about challenges facing NHS practice owners.

We welcome the Government’s commitment to reform NHS dentistry. Every day this broken system remains in place, there is less of a service left to save.

Dentists across 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 say Payment Reform is progress. That risks being undone by reckless NI hikes. But what’s clear is this can’t be the end of the road if we’re going to make NHS dentistry fit for the 21st Century. 👉 https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/blog/scotland-reform-needs-to-continue/

We won’t make NHS dentistry fit for the 21st Century simply by building dental schools, tieing in graduates or importing a workforce from overseas. We have to confront failed systems and underfunding, and make NHS dentistry a place dentists would choose to build a career.

Latest figures show dentist numbers are at an all-time high.  Meanwhile it’s close to impossible to fill vacancies in the NHS.  It’s a simple matter of priorities.  Adding new dentists to a system that is haemorrhaging talent by the day is like trying to fill a leaky bucket. We need reform.

Huge thanks to @martinbagot.bsky.social for his support for our campaign. This dental disarray hits women hardest 👇🏽 #DentalHealthMatters

A strong editorial in the @mirror.co.uk on the latest from the @womensinstitute.bsky.social We share the same diagnosis as Government. Years of neglect, failed contracts and underfunding have brought us here. But we need urgency. Or there won't be a service left to save.

"This service can have a future, but only if ministers are willing to pick up the pace & keep their promises," says Eddie Crouch. "Until then, patients - especially women - will continue to pay the price." https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mums-grandmas-sacrificing-health-nhs-35106354

Always lovely to meet up again with @rachaelmaskell.bsky.social to discuss issues with NHS Dentistry highlighted by report from @womensinstitute.bsky.social especially affecting access for women @thebda.bsky.social

Lovely to meet @alicemlabour.bsky.social yesterday to discuss the report from @womensinstitute.bsky.social and further discuss undergraduate training expansion @thebda.bsky.social

Thanks to all the Parliamentarians we met today, for their support. Our report asserts that the dental health crisis hits women the hardest 👇🏽 #DentalHealthMatters

Had a great time with the @WomensInstitute in parliament this afternoon to meet MPs at the launch of their report on the dental health crisis. The crisis is affecting millions across the country, and this report captures the impact it is having on women in particular @thebda.bsky.social

Proud to support the launch of an important report from the @womensinstitute.bsky.social The crisis in NHS dentistry is having a unique impact on women up and down the country. From pregnancy to menopause, as parents and as carers, access problems often hit women hardest.

Let's break down barriers in dentistry. How intelligent refurbishment can make the world of difference to disabled people. 👉 https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/blog/breaking-down-barriers-how-your-dental-practice-can-become-more-accessible-for-all-patients/

Only 53% of adults reported getting an appointment in the last two years. “The millions missing out on care are storing up problems for the future that could have been nipped in the bud," warns @eddiecrouch.bsky.social

“More children’s teeth will rot, which will cause pain, social stigma, impaired development & lifelong health problems & raise the costs of their medical care. The worst effects will fall on disadvantaged children” #ImpeachRFKJr @thebda.bsky.social @mcgilldentistry.bsky.social @hsph.harvard.edu

Happy And Blessed Easter to all colleagues and families celebrating today from all @thebda.bsky.social

"Quite often now, I'll lose money on providing care for patients," says Jenna Murgatroyd. "I'll see between 30 and 40 patients a day just to try and break even with the NHS work." The latest closures in the West Country show how underfunding and failed contracts are fuelling an access crisis.

Truly remarkable profession and supported by brilliant teams

🩺Doctor ➕ 🔧Engineer ➕ 🎨Artist 🟰 🦷 Dentist This profession faces huge challenges. But we offer a unique combination of skills to millions.

This could be a very important development. But it's not a silver bullet to solve widening oral health inequality, an access crisis hitting millions, or a toxic food environment fuelling decay. https://metro.co.uk/2025/04/13/human-teeth-successfully-grown-lab-first-time-22902294/

Another reason why we need urgency and ambition here... https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/fury-3000-children-go-ae-35047084

[email protected] MP is absolutely right. Millions of patients who can’t afford to go private face impossible choices. NHS dentistry should be available to all who need it. We need real reform now to make this a reality

Doing my bit to help solve some of these problems Another in the range

💥The Action Men and Women who deliver NHS dentistry face an impossible task. 💷Forced to do more with less, unequipped to meet huge demand. 🎯Working to system that puts Government targets before patient care. 📉In practices struggling to keep afloat. We need reform.

A key message from the Public Accounts Committee is real reform must keep pace with the costs of care.  👉 https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/why-reform-needs-to-keep-pace-with-the-costs-of-care/

"It's not just about teeth really, is it" says @gideonamos.bsky.social MP. "It's people's dignity." Delighted to meet with you last week to talk through what we need to end this crisis. The "tidal wave of distress" hitting your constituents is the direct result of political choices.

This is why we supported Labour’s proposed energy drink ban for under-16s. Keen to see this part of the Child Health Action Plan taken forward @ashleydaltonmp.bsky.social

"This is research is a neat illustration of the harm energy drinks have on our patients," says Eddie Crouch. “Drinks that are habit forming, highly acidic and can contain over 20 teaspoons of sugar need to be off the menu, for both elite athletes and our children.”

Very constructive first meeting with @skinnock.bsky.social today at DHSC today. Pleased to be on the same page. I told the Minister we want to restore the pride dentists once had in this service. Look forward to working together to rebuild a service millions depend on. @thebda.bsky.social

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿The Welsh Government have set out a consultation that's inexplicable even for dentists who live and breathe this activity. With no serious attempt to involve the patients we serve. https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/hard-to-follow-a-consultation-on-a-new-unnegotiated-contract/

🇬🇧The UK Government deserves credit for doubling down on tried-and-tested preventive programmes. 🇺🇸 The US Government is putting decades of progress at risk. This isn't about protecting public health - this is simple vandalism. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/07/rfk-jr-flouride-water
