This is what we needed to hear, but what our patients and this profession need now is action. When we sit down with ministers in a few weeks we need to talk timetables.

"We take on the challenge from the British Dental Association that there is more to do." A welcome tone from Wes Streeting. NHS dentistry has been treated as a Cinderella Service. That has to end. We need a fair deal our members and the millions they treat.

We've heard the promises. But when will they translate into real reform?    Minister Stephen Kinnock, will be giving a keynote speech at BDIA Dental Showcase.   We are inviting our members to put their own questions to him:   👉 Ask your question: https://forms.gle/4GrwMgA9x6ihwbML9

Root canals can be tricky. Especially when savage cuts have left the typical NHS practice delivering them at a financial loss. Treasury penny-pinching comes with a human cost for millions. 👉 https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/blog/the-number-one-roadblock-to-reform/

This two-tier approach to primary care is beyond the pale: 📈A reckless Budget hit every part of primary care with huge new overheads. 🩺GPs are now getting the support they need. 🚍But tens of thousands of other practitioners have been thrown under a bus. 👉 www.bda.org/media-centre...

"I'm not going to sit by and watch dental practices cut back their services so that we have much more of this DIY dental care." Our thanks to @libdems.org.uk Baroness Susan Kramer for leading the bid to overturn an NI hike that will push struggling practices to the brink.

Ministers like to talk about the legacy they inherited on NHS dentistry. In opposition, Labour promised 700k urgent dental appointments. In power they discovered we needed 2.2 million of them. To really consign ‘DIY’ dentistry back to the Victorian Era Ministers need to go further & faster.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒Calling all parents! 🦷It’s the number one reason for hospital admissions among young children. ✂️And political choices made in Westminster have left millions with no options. 📕Share your story 👇 www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

“We really are on a knife edge” says new Gillian Lennox. We’ve seen scenes that belong in another century. The Scottish Government need to double down, and secure the pipeline for dentists and the dental team. NHS dentistry needs a fully funded workforce plan. @charlottewaite.bsky.social

NHS Dentists don’t go on strike we just quietly shift the balance of our work. With continually rising costs, & huge professional fees the only option is to shift business focus towards private care. Increased litigation risk & treatment complexities adds to the move away from NHS dentistry.

A shocking and stark reminder that access to dentistry can be a life or death issue That’s why I’m joining @thebda.bsky.social in its call for urgent action to save NHS dentistry

We live in a wealthy 21st century nation. Health ministers UK-wide have a moral responsibility to ensure no patient ends up like this for want of basic care.

A stark reminder that access to dentistry can be a life or death issue. Nick Whelan ended up in ICU with dental sepsis & now lives with permanent scars. Hospital dentists have seen a spike in cases It’s not enough to call it 'Dickensian' – we need action to stop this UK-wide.

🏫Last January @UKLabour said supervised brushing would feature in these breakfast clubs. 🪥We’re still waiting on Govt to set out plans for this tried-and-tested preventive programme. 🦷It needs be at least as ambitious as this - targeting kids in the 1/3 most deprived areas.

A registrant as GDC Chair would send the strongest possible signal to every dental team member that our regulator has turned the page.

This is a real issue for dental registrants across all four nations👇🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧 @thebda.bsky.social

An unprecedented show of unity, with a simple message for the General Dental Council. We want to ensure our regulator’s next Chair can bring knowledge, insight, and empathy from the coalface to the task ahead. Your next Chair should be a registrant. 👉 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

🦷A museum has asked a man who pulled out his own tooth with pliers to put a copy on display. 🏛️The exhibition should be called ‘21st CENTURY BRITAIN’ 🇬🇧This is a source of national shame and it’s why Government needs to go further and faster on reform👉 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

“The current contract really under-incentivises dentists to work on the NHS,” says Kellie Downie. “Because often the payments do not match the level of care we provide.” Why failed contracts and underfunding require emergency treatment from Government. 👉 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

Today NHS dentistry takes a small step.    What we urgently need now is a giant leap.   Action proportionate to the scale of the crisis millions still face.   👉 https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/700-000-urgent-appointments-coming-now-restore-care-to-millions/

📰Front page news. NHS dentistry had ceased to exist for families across Yorkshire long before Covid struck. Rachel Reeve’s constituents have lived with these problems for years. Her coming spending review will either sink or save this service. 👉 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

Progress, but let’s put it in proportion… Without fundamental reform and sustainable funding a service millions depend on won’t have a future. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/02...

It’s great to see progress now being made on this but as @thebda.bsky.social point out it amounts to a dentist seeing little over 2 extra urgent cases a month & no new money behind it. 14 years of Tory failure has left 13 million people unable to dental access care

Today the Government rolls out its pledge of 700,000 new urgent dental appointments. It’s progress, but the future for NHS dentistry remains bleak unless Ministers go further and faster. 👉 https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/700-000-urgent-appointments-coming-now-restore-care-to-millions/

Yesterday the @thebda.bsky.social accused the Labour Government of "Spin, half-truths and doublespeak" when it came to dentistry in Wales. The Government is lying to itself - only a 1/4 of the population has access to NHS Dentists. Labour's record on dentistry is rotten to the core.

This is the direct result of attitudes at @hmtreasury towards NHS dentistry. As I told @BBCr4today on Saturday, the coming Spending Review will sink or save this service. Does @RachelReevesMP want to play the role of saviour or executioner?

📉A new patient exam loses a typical practice over £7. ✂️The result of a generation of savage cuts. 🦷It's no surprise that 13m adults are unable to access care. Why HMT is now the No.1 roadblock to saving NHS Dentistry https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/blog/the-number-one-roadblock-to-reform/

The editorial in today's Western Mail. Welsh Government spin doctors would likely try and describe this as ‘tidal wave of support from the press’ for their policies. But we believe the public and this profession deserve some honesty. 👉 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

“It could be the final nail in the coffin,” warns Russell Gidney Negotiations on a contract that could save NHS dentistry in Wales have been cut short. Welsh Government spin is failing both this profession and the millions we treat. https://bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/wales-calling-out-the-spin/

Testimony from callers on Radio 4 today shows how widespread problems are with NHS dentistry. From Devon to Orkney, people are missing out. It's time to fix the broken NHS contract and ensure those who need access to an NHS dentist have access.

We’re proud to have the @womensinstitute.bsky.social on side fighting for better oral health for all. 👏

This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. But the Welsh Government is offering spin and doublespeak rather than honesty and ambition on a crisis hitting families in every part of Wales. www.bda.org/news-and-opi...
