Beware of those seeking efficiency ... it's usually a first step to tyranny.

There are many places where knowledge graphs are the perfect tool for an organization, and even when not, they can often provide valuable supplemental capabilities. A look at KGs in the latest … The Ontologist.

I've been thinking a lot about Truth lately. We seem to be struggling with it a lot these days, and as an ontologist, it's something that runs deep in modelling. Some ruminations about why truth is a lot more complicated than most people believe. www.linkedin.com/pulse/truth-...?

A video summary of my recent blog post - Through a Glass Darkly 2025, a look at what I expect to see in the coming year. Link to post: www.linkedin.com/pulse/throug...

I began my Through a Glass Darkly series more than twenty years ago, giving my thoughts about the coming year in tech. This one took a while , but focuses on GenAI - the good, the bad, and the UGGGLLY. Join me for ... The Cagle Report. www.linkedin.com/pulse/throug...

Well, that certainly lasted a while - a full day. The question of course is whether the real reason for the about face was the protest by anesthesiologists or the assassination of an insurance CEO?

Interesting development from Anthropic - the release of an open source model context protocol that provides a consistent standard for prompting into external data sources from LLMs. If adopted, it could considerably simplify RAG operations. www.anthropic.com/news/model-c...

Ethics? We don't need no stinkin' ethics. The ensh*tification of AI continues.

Corporate America is becoming increasingly sociopathic. My guess - investors are driving a lot of this, in part to drive dividends up no matter what the costs to cover losses from bad investments. Fire anyone who isn't absolutely essential, jettison projects, do anything to bring in money.

It won't for much longer. As near as I can tell, I think the AI meltdown should hit the stock market around the start of 2025Q2. You're already seeing a surge as institutional investors start switching to safe stocks and out of tech. OpenAI has about six months of cash on hand, and its going fast.

A useful metric, especially in light of the incoming Anti-science/anti-reality administration. The thing to keep in mind - science doesn't care if you believe or not. If you jump off a tall building, you will not suddenly be able to fly. You will just be a pancake when you reach the bottom.

The singular "they" goes way back.

Just posted a chapter to my book: A Brief History of Writing. linkedin.com/pulse/brief-...

Way back in college, I completed a minor in astrophysics, and while my life went in a very different direction, I've always loved astronomy from planetary to cosmological. Adding this with a rec to @bot.astronomy.blue signup to sign up to the Astronomy List.

I'm working up a new book on taxonomies, ontologies, and knowledge graphs (Ontology, a Layperson's Guide to Language), and already having fun with it. Expect it early 2025. #Ontologists #Ontology

Some thoughts on Bluesky's 1 million signups in 24 hours - the Rise of the Resistance. www.linkedin.com/posts/kurtca...

If we ignore #climateChange, maybe it will go away. Right?

Michael Keaton aside, this explains a lot about Betelgeuse.

Most of what people know does not come from first-hand experience. Rather, it comes from the media around them, from jongleurs and wandering bards to the latest in social media. We are also fundamentally visual first, verbal second, and analytical reading a distant third. We are drowning in noise.

Canada has just had a case of H5N1 that appears to be domestic (meaning that North American birds now have it and are spreading it to human populations). No doubt RFK, Jr. is on top of it, right?! Apparently Mother Nature doesn't like DJT either.

And so it begins. Bow down, O Republican Sycophants, give your fealty to your new King. Just remember that, to DJT, loyalty is a one way street.

Oh, I think this is so prescient. I have worried about this for more then a quarter century myself. I am in information technology, yet there are times I wonder whether this will be something I will regret on my deathbed.

This is my inaugural post on Bluesky. I am a writer, journalist, information architect and artist, fleeing from X and the cesspool that it's become. Look for me on Linked In (Kurt Cagle) for my newsletter, though I hope to also establish a home on Bluesky. My alter ego:
