We have published our advice on the Seventh Carbon Budget. It is in line with previous Government commitments – the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Carbon Budgets, international commitments, and the Net Zero commitment in 2050.

The UK’s Seventh Carbon Budget level should be set at 535 MtCO2e, an 87% reduction against 1990 levels. This country has a prosperous and secure future ahead. The fossil fuel age is over – it’s time to electrify the United Kingdom. www.theccc.org.uk/2025/02/26/e...

The COP29 successfully negotiated key agreements on finance and carbon markets but has left a huge amount of work on both mitigation and adaptation action ahead of COP30. Our latest briefing is out now....

COP29 delivered mixed results. Several decisions have been deferred until next year. The UK can play a significant role in supporting climate progress, as it did most notably in driving Net Zero targets around the world when it hosted COP26....

The Committee has responded to a request for advice on expanding the UK Emissions Trading Scheme. We support the inclusion of Energy from Waste and waste incineration, but recommend not increasing the overall cap....
